The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture is pleased to announce the recipients of the Community Arts Support Grants Program for the 2017-2018 fiscal year. This month the Office will award 63 grants to 54 non-profit arts and culture organizations serving Phoenix residents through arts and culture activities for a total a total of $865,346. Grant funds support the general operating costs of major, midsize, and small arts and culture organizations, specific arts projects related to festivals, as well as arts learning activities. Funds are also allocated to a rental support program operated by the Office of Arts and Culture in partnership with the Phoenix Convention Center. This figure does not include $20,000 in new grant funding for youth-oriented programs the City Council recently approved. The first round of Youth Arts and Culture Grant proposals will be solicited in the early fall.
“Investment in arts and culture is vital to our economy and quality of life in Phoenix, said Mayor Greg Stanton. “Supporting artists and outstanding organizations helps introduce our residents and visitors to the distinct vibrancy of our community. These grants also help attract and retain a more creative and innovative workforce that wants to live in a culturally rich city.”
The Community Arts Support grants are dollar-for-dollar matching grants, requiring grantees to raise funds from corporations, foundations and/or individuals in the city of Phoenix.
General Operating Support grants, offered in three categories (I, II, and III) based on size of organization, are intended to sustain a community of responsibly governed organizations; enrich arts and culture literacy for our residents by requiring education and outreach programs; and encourage diversity of programming that will engage community-wide participation. General operating support grant recipients include Alwun House, Arizona Jewish Historical Society, Arizona Opera, Arizona Science Center, Arizona Theatre Company, Artlink, Ballet Arizona, Black Theatre Troupe, Children’s Museum of Phoenix, Cultural Coalition, Desert Botanical Garden, Free Arts of Arizona, Grand Canyon Performing Arts, Great Arizona Puppet Theater, iTheatre Collaborative, Jazz in Arizona, Heard Museum, MusicaNova Orchestra, Musical Instrument Museum, North Valley Symphony Orchestra, Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix Boys Choir Association, Phoenix Center for the Arts, Phoenix Chamber Music Society, Phoenix Children’s Chorus, Phoenix Chorale, Phoenix Conservatory of Music, Phoenix Film Foundation, Phoenix Symphony Association, Phoenix Theatre, Rising Youth Theatre, Rosie’s House, Rosson House Heritage Square Foundation, Valley Youth Theatre, Young Arts Arizona, and Xico.

Through the Rental Support Program a total of $250,000 is awarded to major cultural organizations that help revitalize the Phoenix downtown corridor through their presentations in city-owned performing arts facilities: Symphony Hall, Orpheum Theater and Herberger Theater Center. Grantees include Arizona Opera, Arizona Theatre Company, Ballet Arizona, Center Dance Ensemble, iTheatre Collaborative, Phoenix Symphony and Valley Youth Theatre.
General Operating Support III organizations are allowed to also submit proposals in a project category. Artlink, Cultural Coalition, and Young Arts Arizona received grants in two categories.
