http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases-test/fred-duval-announces-run-for-governor-at-local-businesses-204584491.html

PHOENIX, April 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Today, in Phoenix and Tucson, before groups of enthusiastic supporters, volunteers, friends and his family, business and education leader Fred DuVal announced that he is running to become Arizona’s 23rd Governor. Assembled in locally owned, community coffee shops, those gathered heard Fred DuVal lay out his vision for Arizona first-hand; those who could not be there in person were invited to watch Fred’s Gubernatorial announcement video on his website at www.fred2014.com. DuVal set his sights on jobs, opportunities and education for all Arizonans during his remarks. (Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130424/LA01252) “Today, Arizona’s promise has been broken,” DuVal said. “Investment in Arizona has suffered, education has been cut, growth is stalled, jobs have vanished. Our state leaders have no plan, no clear strategy to build jobs, opportunity and a good quality of life for today, or for tomorrow.” Speaking with conviction, DuVal continued, “We have to do better. Together we can set our sights on big goals and move with common purpose: a robust and competitive business climate; a workforce with skills for the new economy; efficient government that is accountable to people. I believe that we can achieve these goals. That is why I am announcing my candidacy for Governor. I want to work with you, and work for you, to restore Arizona’s promise.” “Fred’s vision for Arizona and his deliberate plan for how we get there is energizing,” said Phoenix City Councilman and campaign chairman Daniel Valenzuela . “Everyone we talk with is encouraged by Fred’s leadership and vision for Arizona’s future. What Fred has accomplished in the first nine weeks of this campaign has been extraordinary; it sets the tone of what we can expect from him as Governor. Everyone who desires a renewed Arizona should go to his website right now and join us in supporting Fred for Governor.” Transcending partisan gridlock to create progress for Arizona is DuVal’s key goal. “I am a life-long Democrat, but I know that if we are to going to have a future in this state, we have to stop thinking left versus right, Republican or Democrat, and start thinking forward or backward,” he said. “When I am Governor, we will move Arizona forward.” Today’s announcements were deliberately held at small businesses where people gather every day to work, share ideas and build community. Squash Blossom in Phoenix and Bentley’s in Tucson are locally owned. Arizona business and education leader Fred DuVal , established a committee to explore running for Governor on February 14, 2013. DuVal has held leadership positions in the Arizona Governor’s Office, the White House, Arizona’s public university system and in the private sector, where he was credited with solving big problems for middle-class families. When he announced the formation of his exploratory committee, DuVal cited “stalled growth and vanishing jobs” as trends that are “slowly closing the gates of opportunity on our next generation.” Calling for a “clear strategy to attract jobs of the future and make changes to ensure our prosperity,” DuVal has been visiting communities across Arizona for weeks. Fred DuVal graduated from Tucson High School. He received a B.A. from Occidental College and received a degree in law from Arizona State University. He is married to Jennifer Hecker DuVal and has two sons. Learn more at www.Fred2014.com. SOURCE Fred DuVal for Governor 2014 RELATED LINKS http://www.Fred2014.com

City Showcases the Successful Practices of Gordon Estates, a Green Subdivision

April 23, 2013 The city of Phoenix Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) and developer partner, Mandalay Communities, successfully transformed a formerly failed subdivision and stagnant construction site into Gordon Estates, a green, solar-powered residential community located at 16th and Apollo streets, between Southern Avenue and Baseline Road. Gordon Estates is a pilot NSP project consisting of 14 green, energy-efficient and sustainable homes accomplishing three primary goals: 1. Provide an affordable home that costs less to operate and provides a healthier environment for the homeowner while also creating jobs in the community. 2. Invest in new home construction that targets innovation and technology with high-performing energy and water efficiency, indoor air quality, durability and neighborhood walk ability at a lower price point for families earning less than 120 percent of the area median income. 3. Demonstrate a template of building practices and plans that can be a model for real estate professionals and the homebuilding industry, and also be used in other neighborhood revitalization areas to help stabilize communities heavily affected by the foreclosure crisis. Read the Gordon Estates Fact Sheet The result is the only green subdivision in the United States that meets and exceeds the National Green Building Standard Gold, ENERGY STAR v3, EPA WaterSense and Indoor Air Plus certifications. Energy consumption in these green homes is reduced by up to 70 percent over a traditional new home, with estimated energy costs of less than $69 per month to operate a 1,990-square-foot home. For example, a plan 3 model home has a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rating of 38 compared to the 2012 International Residential Building Code requirement of 70. To demonstrate how the practices can be replicated on other projects, two educational green home workshops are being offered for industry professionals. The workshops will be held from 8:30 – 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, and noon – 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at 1524 E. Apollo St. The workshops will be presented by the city, Mandalay Communities and G Street, the project’s green consultant. Topics include energy and water efficiency systems, ventilation and indoor air quality, site planning, building products, special appraisal and lending opportunities, and other construction practices used to achieve the four certifications. The workshops have been well-received by previous attendees. Tim King of ICYNENE, a green building product company, said, “The vision from the city of Phoenix has soundly demonstrated that these technologies can all be utilized in an affordable housing segment of the market.” The workshops qualify for continuing education credits and are open to all industry professionals including Realtors, lenders, developers, contractors, building officials and nonprofits. To register for the free workshops, visit gstreetinc.com/green-home-101-workshop-and-tour and enter discount code ‘gordonestates’. Grand Canyon University's Run To Fight Children's Cancer Raises $104,000 For Local Families In Need

Theo nguồn tin Grand Canyon University trên trang mạng của PRNewswire PHOENIX, April 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Grand Canyon University’s third annual Run to Fight Children’s Cancer raised $104,000, bringing the total proceeds from the past three races to nearly $200,000 to help local families grappling with cancer. (Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130418/LA97355) (Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20121127/AQ19393LOGO) The funds were awarded to the event’s beneficiaries – Children’s Cancer Network and Phoenix Children’s Hospital – during a special check presentation today. “Thanks to an outpouring of support, we are able to fund research, patient care and programs that provide financial and emotional assistance to families and children right here in our community,” said Brian Mueller , president and chief executive officer of Grand Canyon University. The Run to Fight Children’s Cancer is the largest race of its kind in Arizona dedicated solely to pediatric cancer. This year’s festival-style event, which featured a 10k run, a 5k run/walk and a special quarter-mile Cancer Survivors’ Walk, attracted a record 3,000 registrants, along with an additional 1,000 visitors who were on campus to support the participants. Cooper Gokee , 9, of Maricopa, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in March 2012, served as the honorary race starter. He was joined by a host of other local children dressed in gold “Cancer-Fighting Superhero” capes to signify their fight against the disease. “Not only was this an inspirational event, it was a fun family day too, with music, food, games and arts and crafts,” Mueller said. The race shines a light on one of the most overlooked and underfunded areas of the disease. This year, an estimated 12,000 children in the United States under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer and 1,300 of them will not reach adulthood. Grand Canyon University was founded in 1949 and is Arizona’s premier private Christian university. GCU is regionally accredited and emphasizes individual attention for both traditional undergraduate students and the working professional in seven colleges: the Ken Blanchard College of Business, the College of Education, the College of Nursing and Health Care Professions, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Theology, the College of Fine Arts and Production, and the College of Doctoral Studies. GCU offers traditional programs on its growing campus, as well as online bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs. The University’s curriculum fuses academic and clinical rigor with Christian values to prepare its students to be skilled, caring professionals. For more information about GCU, visit www.gcu.edu. Children’s Cancer Network is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance to Arizona families dealing with childhood cancer. Children’s Cancer Network is committed to helping children and families dealing with the stressful and uncertain times that begin with initial diagnosis and often continue for years thereafter.
