Mind of a Champion Camp Sponsored by Outside the Game and Africa Children's Hope Foundation Helps Student Athletes with More than Just Physical Conditioning

Theo nguồn tin trên trang mạng của prweb.com PHOENIX, ARIZ (PRWEB) NOVEMBER 23, 2015 World Champion track athlete Arnold Payne knows all too well the stresses that student athletes face as they seek to fulfill their goals both on the field, court or track, as well as in their personal lives and in school. That’s why Outside the Game, LLC and Payne’s nonprofit, Africa Children’s Hope Foundation have partnered together to offer a weekend camp in January that promises to help aspiring high school student athletes sharpen their bodies and minds. “It’s a feeling only serious athletes understand,” said Payne. “The pressure to excel both in and out of the game can be completely overwhelming and often inhibits great athletes from reaching their full potential.” “Mind of a Champion Camp” will kick off on Saturday January 9, 2016 with its “Be Mindful” Reception. Students and parents will enjoy a short program titled “Training Your Mind to be a Champion” before being offered the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet one on one, mingle and learn from professional and Olympic athletes at a private, rooftop reception. Athletes available for one on one discussions throughout the events include Arnold Payne, Steve Mesler, Dwight Phillips, Tim Harden, Sandrine Nzeukou, Cornelius Brown, Dr. Paul Wallace, and Damon Mclean, and Carolyn Moos. Day two’s workshop will offer students, their parents and coaches the chance to learn critical mental preparedness and coping strategies as they move into athletics in college and beyond. Certified Sports Life Coaches, former Olympians and professional athletes will lead the all day camp to ensure whether on or off the field, at practice or at home, athletes have the support they need both mentally and physically to stay healthy and succeed. “It’s important that we reach athletes early in their careers to ensure they are prepared both mentally and physically for what the future holds, and I believe this workshop is a solid first step in getting them where they need to be,” said Payne. Both events will take place at Ability360 Sports and Fitness Center located in Phoenix, AZ. The event took place on October 3, 2015 at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort in Chandler, AZ. The evening was full of inspirational stories and entertaining dance routines that physicians, nurses and even stroke survivors trained for. A highlight of the evening was a dance routine in which Shawn Nerdahl, instructor and co-owner of Arizona Ballroom Champions, took the dance floor with stroke survivors he had been teaching, it was moving and inspirational for everyone in attendance. The money raised during the event this year will fund therapy programs and give 50 stroke survivors and their caretakers the chance to attend the Stroke Camp in 2016. This camp gives them the tools to help them take control of their life once again. “This event was a success because we were able to show that even after having a stroke a survivor can have hope and with the right support the survivor and their family can find joy,” said Rex Albright with Dignity Health Foundation. Phoenix Reminds Residents to Recycle Right this Holiday Season

Theo nguồn tin trên trang của phoenix.gov

Wed Nov 25 2015 15:45:00 GMT-0500 (EST) During the holiday season, the amount of waste produced by households increases by 25 percent. To help decrease the amount of waste produced, the Phoenix Public Works Department is urging residents to adopt proper sustainable practices during the upcoming holidays. Use cloth napkins and silverware rather than paper napkins and plastic utensils. Use gift bags rather than wrapping paper because gift bags can be re-used many times. If you have to use wrapping paper, choose the kind that doesn’t have cloth, felt, glitter and/or metal embellishments. Embellished paper cannot be recycled properly. Have fun with wrapping and use old magazines, comic strips, maps, etc. to wrap presents. Give holiday cards that are made of recycled paper and avoid those that have embellishments, such as glitter, on it. When sending packages to loved ones, use shredded paper or old newspapers to pack the items instead of polystyrene foam. Bring reusable shopping bags for groceries and holiday shopping. Remember that plastic shopping bags should NOT be placed in the residential blue recycling bins; take them to your nearest grocery store to be recycled. The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) has compiled a video series called “Think Before You Shop” to educate residents on how to be sustainable during the holidays. http://www.azmag.gov/Environmental/Regional_Recycling_Videos.asp For more holiday recycling tips, check out the Phoenix Public Works Facebook page at /PHXPublicWorks and follow us on Twitter and Instagram as @TalkingTrashPHX. -30- Media Contact: Yvette Roeder (media only) General Contact: Customer Service Phone Number: 602-262-7251

Theo nguồn tin trên trang của phoenix.gov

Nov. 24, 2015 When nighttime temperatures drop and days cool down, many of the community’s homeless end up on the streets without blankets, clothing and other necessities to keep them warm. The city of Phoenix is asking for donations to help. Blankets, new or used (but clean and freshly laundered), are the highest priority. Clean warm clothing, such as long-sleeve jackets and long pants, sweatshirts and sweatpants, warm hats and gloves, coats, new underwear and socks, shoes and hygiene items also are accepted. The items above also are needed in children’s sizes for families. Additional needs are baby food/formula, diapers and children’s blankets. These are the only items the city will accept. The items will be collected through March. The program is coordinated by the city’s Human Services Department. Donated items, which are tax deductible, may be delivered to any of the city’s three Family Services Centers between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday: Travis L. Williams, 4732 S. Senior Care Authority Now Serving Seniors Through New Phoenix Office

Theo nguồn tin trên trang mạng của prweb.com PHOENIX, AZ (PRWEB) NOVEMBER 18, 2015 With over 1,000 licensed assisted living locations in the Phoenix Metro area, finding the right residential care for a loved one can be a daunting task. Just ask Steve Gilbert. Based on the difficulties he experienced searching for assisted living for his father, Gilbert opened a Senior Care Authority office serving the Phoenix Metro area. His mission: To be a trusted advisor to families seeking the best care and living options for their loved ones. Senior Care Authority provides hands-on assistance to families and seniors seeking top-quality independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and residential care homes. “My goal is simple – to improve on the experience my family went through in finding care for our father. I’ve spent countless hours personally visiting and assessing hundreds of care homes and communities across Phoenix so other families don’t have to,” Gilbert said. “We also know about availability, pricing and level of care provided,” Gilbert said. “We don’t just hand clients a list of facility names; we meet one-on-one with families to get a full understanding of their needs and preferences. We then schedule and accompany them on visits to pre-approved facilities, assist them with negotiations and paperwork, and follow up after they’ve moved in.” Gilbert recently completed a certification program to become a Nationally Certified Readmission Prevention Professional (NCRP). He is one of the first healthcare leaders in the state to receive this prestigious honor, which is highly regarded by hospitals, which now are penalized financially if patients are admitted unnecessarily to the hospital. Prior to becoming a Senior Care Authority advisor, Steve spent more than 22 years in the financial services industry helping customers achieve their financial goals. He now applies his needs assessment and problem solving skills to helping seniors and their families find the right residential communities in the Phoenix Metro Area. Steve’s wife and business partner, Katy, has more than 24 years of experience in the social services and healthcare industry, so together they have over 45 years of experience in social work, healthcare and financial services. Gilbert provides his services at no charge to families; as Senior Care Authority Advisors typically receive a commission from the community the family selects. Gilbert’s territory covers Metro Phoenix, Prescott, Sedona and Flagstaff (Apache, Coconino, Maricopa, Mohave, Navajo and Yavapai counties). For more information about Senior Care Authority of Phoenix Metro, visit http://www.seniorcareauthority.com/phoenixmetro/ or call (888) 624-8587.
