Councilman Michael Nowakowski Invites Residents to Celebrate New Amenities and a Day of Service at Cesar Chavez Park, March 19

March 16, 2016 Councilman Michael Nowakowski is inviting residents to celebrate new amenities and a day of service at District 7’s Cesar Chavez Park, March 19 from 7 – 11 a.m. The improvements include a new, two-acre dog park that features separate areas for small and large dogs, drinking fountains for dogs, seating areas, and grass and decomposed granite surfaces as well as a new performance stage and soccer fields. Funding for the project came from impact fees. The grand opening event flier can be downloaded here​. ​ “With the latest improvements, this park is growing into a community treasure that is a real tribute to Cesar Chavez’s great legacy,” Councilman Nowakowski said. “This communitywide celebration is a chance to enjoy great new park features and to give back to the community in honor of a great leader who did so much for our country.” The Day of Service begins at 7 a.m. and is being conducted in partnership with the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department. Individuals or groups interested in volunteering should contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 602-262-6862. The celebration and ribbon cutting for the amenities will begin at 9 a.m. and will feature food, giveaways, performances by the Cesar Chavez High school Marching Band and Cheer Squad as well as a free youth soccer clinic.
