Oct. 23, 2015 With help from Councilman Michael Nowakowski and area residents, the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department will celebrate the grand re-opening of Playa Margarita Park, 36th Avenue and Roeser Road, on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. A five-month construction project that renovated the park was completed in September 2015. “Playa Margarita is important to the surrounding community, and these exciting renovations and upgrades mean neighbors are getting an almost brand new park,” Councilman Nowakowski said. “I encourage residents to come out and celebrate the renewal of this valuable community asset.” In addition to a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the day-long event also will feature a car show, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, car seat and bike safety demonstrations from the Phoenix Fire Department, and interactive activities related to the Phoenix Police Department’s Block Watch program. All festivities are scheduled to conclude at 4 p.m. Improvements to the park include a new playground, sand volleyball court, walking path with fitness stations, ramadas, dugouts and bleachers, and community plaza. Sports field lighting, restrooms and ADA accommodations also received upgrades. Along with those new and upgraded amenities, the park also received the addition of 60 shade trees, improvements to landscaping and turf, and a new irrigation system.
