Sep. 5, 2014 Phoenix Planned Major Street Restrictions – Updated Sept. 5 Drivers should be aware of the following city of Phoenix roadway restrictions and are encouraged to allow for additional travel time. NEW RESTRICTIONS: None. SPECIAL EVENTS: None. REOPENING AFTER RESTRICTIONS: MCDOWELL ROAD – 91ST TO 99TH AVENUES McDowell Road between 91st to 99th avenues is now open to normal traffic following the completion of a city of Phoenix, Water Department sanitary sewer relief project. CONTINUING RESTRICTIONS: Buckeye Road – 51st and 67th avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix, Water Services Department project for the installation of a new 36-inch water main, with completion scheduled September. Buckeye Road – 75th and 79th avenues, partial restrictions due to city of Phoenix, Planning and Development Services Department project, with completion scheduled for September 13. Grand Avenue – Encanto Boulevard and 23rd Avenue intersection, partial restriction due an Arizona Department of Transportation $12.7 million improvement project of US 60 (Grand Avenue), with completion scheduled for September 17. Bethany Home Road – 31st to 35th avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project to provide a water main replacement and residential water services, with completion scheduled for September. Broadway Road “Avenida Rio Salado” – Central to 43rd avenues is partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project to provide “connectivity” to the west valley, with completion scheduled for August. During the “Avenida Rio Salado” project, Broadway Road will be restricted between Seventh Street and 51st Avenue. Broadway Road – 15th to 35th avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Department sewer main improvement project, with completion scheduled for November 2014. Broadway Road – 15th to 24th streets, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Services Department sewer main improvement, with completion scheduled for December. Chandler Boulevard – Desert Foothills Parkway to 16th Street, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Services Department 12-inch water main upgrade project, with completion scheduled for November. Dobbins Road – Seventh to 27th avenues partial restriction due to city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department storm repairs, completion scheduled for September. Indian School Road – 10th to 16th streets, partial restriction due to a Southwest Gas Corporation infrastructure improvement project for a new natural gas main, with completion scheduled for September. Lower Buckeye Road – 43rd to 51st avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project widening Lower Buckeye Road, with completion scheduled for December. Van Buren Street – 75th to 83rd avenues, partial restriction due to Southwest Gas Corporation project for the installation of a feeder gas line, completion scheduled for September. Seventh Street – Roosevelt Street to Thomas Road, partial restriction due to an Arizona Public Service infrastructure improvement project, completion scheduled for September. 19th Avenue – Grand Avenue and McDowell Road intersection, partial restriction due to an Arizona Department of Transportation $12.7 million improvement project of US 60 (Grand Avenue). The project will include pavement improvements, road construction, and new right turn lanes and sidewalks at various locations. New lighting, landscape, screen walls, and fencing will be included in the project, with completion scheduled for July. For additional information, email projects@azdot.gov or call the Project Hotline at 855-712-8530. 24th Street – Broadway Road to University Drive, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Services Department sewer improvement project that requires major storm drain modifications at 24th Street and Jones Avenue, with scheduled completion for September. 35th Avenue – Bethany Home Road to Missouri Avenue, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project to provide water main replacement and residential water services, with completion scheduled for September. 43rd Avenue – Lower Buckeye Road to Buckeye Road, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project widening of Lower Buckeye Road and 43rd Avenue, with completion scheduled for December. Northwest light rail extension – Ongoing restrictions along 19th Avenue and cross streets related to light rail northwest extension construction. 19th Avenue between Bethany Home Road to Dunlap Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction for utility relocation. Councilman Nowakowski Hosting Free Movie in the Park Sept. 5

Sep. 3, 2014 Councilman Michael Nowakowski invites residents to bring their families and friends to a free “Movie in the Park,” featuring “Blended,” at sunset (approximately 6:30 p.m.), Friday, Sept. 5, at University Park, 1002 W. Van Buren St. “Blended” is a PG-13 comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. “Movie in the Park” events are a great opportunity to meet fellow residents and enjoy a great movie in a beautiful city park under clear Arizona night skies. The event is free and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and a picnic dinner to this community event. Free Hands-on Paint Sprayer Training Offered to Help Residents Keep Neighborhoods Graffiti Free

Sep. 3, 2014 It’s still hot outside, but city staff will make this training worth your time as you learn something new to help your neighborhood stay graffiti free. Staff from the city’s Neighborhood Services Department will host a free paint sprayer training session from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the NSD West Facility, 3325 W. Flower St. During the two-hour session, residents will watch a video on how to safely operate a paint sprayer and receive hands-on instruction. Once attendees are comfortable with the equipment, they will remove graffiti at a nearby location. Upon completion of the course, residents will receive a laminated card and will be able to use a paint sprayer free of charge for community clean-ups. As a reminder, paint and supplies for community clean-ups and blight removal are free of charge to neighborhood associations listed with Neighborhood Services. Residents must wear casual clothing to the training session as they may get paint on their clothing. Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event (new times)

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Aug. 29, 2014 The Public Works Department will host a household hazardous waste (HHW) collection event for Phoenix customers from 7 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 6. The event will take place at the Maryvale Baseball Park, 3600 N. 51st Ave. The HHW events are free for city of Phoenix solid waste customers. Attendees must bring their current city of Phoenix municipal services bill showing solid waste fees and a matching photo ID with the same Phoenix address to have access to HHW events. Acceptable HHW materials include: Automobile fluids Oil-based paints and related materials (10-gallon maximum) Pesticides; herbicides; insecticides; pool chemicals Propane tanks, grill or camp size only Car – lead acid batteries; car tires – only five per household, no oversized tires Large appliances – refrigerators; freezers; stove; dishwasher; washer; dryer Air conditioner; heat pumps; water heaters; evaporative coolers Electronics – computers; printers; televisions; stereos; DVD players No commercial loads, large residential quantities of medical waste, explosives or radioactive waste will be accepted.
