Motorcyclist Chris Mengel will Ride Cross Country to Raise Funds and Awareness for Ovarian Cancer Research and to Support Colleen’s Dream Foundation

(PRWEB) AUGUST 10, 2015 To support Colleen’s Dream Foundation in their fight against ovarian cancer, motorcyclist, Chris Mengel, will ride his Goldwing Motorcycle over 2,000 miles to raise funds and awareness for ovarian cancer research. His ride will end in Arizona on September 26, 2015, to coincide with Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Mengel, who lost his wife Ashlyn to ovarian cancer in 2013, says his ride is an effort to do something about the disease that had such a terrible impact on his life; and the life of someone he loved. “Ashlyn was an amazing woman,” says Mengel. “She was a loving and devoted wife, a caring and nurturing mother, an amazing pianist and organist, she had a tremendous heart for God, and a beautiful, strong and rich faith that enabled her to faithfully serve throughout her treatment. We often dreamed about traveling together later in life, so this seemed like a fitting way to honor her.” Click here for more about Chris Mengel’s ride, or to make a tax deductible contribution to his effort. Mengel said he recently found out about Colleen’s Dream Foundation from the family of his new wife, Kimberly. He said he decided to reach out to the organization see if there was something he could do to help in the fight against ovarian cancer. “I spoke to Colleen’s Dream Foundation’s Executive Director Nicole Cundiff last December on Ashlyn’s birthday,” says Mengel. “Nicole and I had a wonderful conversation. I enjoyed learning about Nicole’s mother, Colleen Drury (who passed from ovarian cancer), and her life and legacy. Nicole was very moved by my story.” “After that conversation, I wanted to help,” says Mengel. “But I decided I wanted to do something different. When I learned that Colleen also rode a motorcycle, that got my wheels turning – literally. I spoke to Nicole and her husband, Billy, about the idea of a charity ride in September to go along with Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and they were all in!” Cundiff says the ride will take place on September 26, 2015 and riders will meet at 9 am for breakfast at Harold’s in Cave Creek to prepare for the ride. Daniel Piacquadio, an owner of Harold’s Corral, says they are honored to be part of this event. “Harold’s Corral is very proud to support Colleen’s Dream Foundation and to be part of this event,” says Piacquadio. “We love the dedication and commitment from this organization and what they have accomplished in a short period of time. They are making a difference!! We all have been touched by someone affected with cancer and we look forward to the day that all cancers are eliminated. We also felt this to be a perfect way to kick off Harold’s 80th anniversary party.” Cundiff says Arizona Harley-Davidson will be having a huge demo event that day – there will be live music and they will be serving lunch to all attendees. “Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson® couldn’t be more proud to host a welcome party for Colleen’s Dream Ride,” says Phillip McKee, a representative from Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson. “The work that Nicole and Chris are doing is so important to our community and so many more just like it dealing with this disease. Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson has spent 50 years serving the Valley of the Sun, and it’s organizations like Colleen’s Dream that will help insure the next 50 are the best for us all!” Although this ride is in remembrance of his late wife Ashlyn, Mengel says there is one other –well actually two other- important reasons for engaging in this fundraiser: his daughters. “I want to be an example to my daughters,” says Mengel. “I want them to see that you can accomplish big goals when you put your mind –and your heart- to them.” Mengel says the ride will take between four and five days. His goal is to get pledges for every mile he rides up to 2,000 miles. Click here for more about Chris Mengel’s ride, or to make a tax deductible contribution to his effort. ABOUT OVARIAN CANCER:

Ovarian cancer is often referred to as “the silent killer” because many women do not discover their disease until it is in the late stages, which leads to many women succumbing to the disease within a short period of time. Unlike cervical or breast cancer, ovarian cancer does not have a standardized early detection procedure. When it comes to women’s health, ovarian cancer proves to be one of the deadliest diseases.

Colleen’s Dream Foundation Grants Over $20,000 to Cleveland Clinic for Ovarian Cancer Research

Theo nguồn tin tiếng Anh trên trang mạng của thành phố Phoenix In its continuing effort to fight ovarian cancer, Colleen’s Dream Foundation has granted over $20,000 to Cleveland Clinic to fund ovarian cancer research being conducted by Dr. Angela H. Ting, according to Colleen’s Dream Foundation President Billy Cundiff.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) January 26, 2014

In its continuing effort to fight ovarian cancer, Colleen’s Dream Foundation has granted over $20,000 to Cleveland Clinic to fund ovarian cancer research being conducted by Dr. Angela H. Ting, according to Colleen’s Dream Foundation President Billy Cundiff.

"Working with Cleveland Clinic has been an amazing experience," says Cundiff. "We are excited to support Dr. Ting's research."

Dr. Ting, who is an Assistant Staff of Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute, says her "scientific passion" is the study of epigenetics.

She says one of her goals for her work is to establish an epigenetic signature for chemo-resistance in ovarian cancer.

"Epigenetics is defined as modifications of DNA or chromatin that do not directly change the DNA sequence but can significantly influence gene expression and organizations of the genome," says Dr. Ting. "An "epigenetic signature" is a unique epigenetic pattern that distinguishes drug resistant ovarian cancers from those that are responsive to treatments."

She says the Colleen’s Dream Foundation grant will allow her to conduct follow up research -on earlier pilot studies- addressing this topic.

Go here to learn more about "epigenetic signatures."

"Raising awareness and promoting research are truly the most essential and powerful strategies to improve the management of ovarian cancer and to reduce suffering due to the disease. I feel very honored to be part of this effort and greatly admire the thoughtful generosity of Mr.Lanning and Mr.Cundiff to show their support through the Kicking for the Dream program."

Cundiff, who is the kicker for the Cleveland Browns, says the $20,000 grant money given to the Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Ting was raised through Kicking For The Dream, and a Colleen’s Dream Foundation "grant match."

Kicking for the Dream is an online fundraising project Cundiff created to encourage both kicking specialists –at every level- and individuals -from anywhere in the world- to participate in fighting ovarian cancer.

Cundiff says that he, and Cleveland Browns punter Spencer Lanning, both created pledge pages on Kicking For The Dream in an effort to raise money for this grant. Together they raised over $10,000. He says he and Lanning agreed any money they raised should stay in Cleveland.

"Both Spencer and I agreed it was important the money we raised should be kept in Cleveland to help grow the talent at Cleveland Clinic," says Cundiff. "Cleveland Clinic is doing amazing work. And the ovarian cancer research they are conducting is very important in fighting this deadly disease."

NFL Kicking Specialists Help Kicking For The Dream Raise Over $40,000 to Fight Ovarian Cancer in Its 2013 Fundraising Campaign

Theo nguồn tin của bestofluxury.com trên mạng prweb.com NFL kickers, punters and snappers help Kicking For The Dream raise over $40,000 in its 2013 fundraising effort to help fight ovarian cancer, according to Kicking For The Dream founder NFL kicker Billy Cundiff.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) January 07, 2014

NFL kicker Billy Cundiff gets a little help from his friends as NFL kickers, punters and snappers help Kicking For The Dream raise $40,981 in its 2013 fundraising effort to fight ovarian cancer.

“Our NFL guys all stepped up big time to help Kicking For The Dream’s 2013 fundraising effort,” says Cundiff. “Nick Novak and Spencer Lanning have personally been touched by ovarian cancer. Their enthusiasm and effort were incredible. Ryan Quigley just wanted to make a difference."

Go here to see all the kicking specialists who supported the 2013 Kicking For The Dream fundraising campaign.

Novak, who raised over $7,000 for Kicking For The Dream says his fundraising efforts were very personal.

“We have all been affected by cancer in some way or another,” says Novak. “For me it was Annie Arth, she passed in 2005 after battling ovarian and breast cancer her entire adult life. A very good family friend and neighbor, I admired her so much because of her positive attitude and strength through it all.”

Novak said he had no hesitation when Cundiff asked him to participate in the fundraising effort.

“I tip my hat to Cundiff and all the others involved,” says Novak. “This is what it’s all about.”

Cundiff couldn’t agree more saying that bringing kicking specialists together -from every level- to join in the fight against ovarian cancer, is what Kicking For The Dream is all about. He says this years’ success just validates the project concept.

“Together, regardless of their background, these kicking specialists raised a ton of awareness about ovarian cancer, and money for cutting edge research to fight this disease,” says Cundiff. “These guys are first class and we couldn't be more honored to have them on our team."

Cundiff says as impressive as the 2013 Kicking For The Dream team was, he believes the 2014 fundraising team will even be bigger.

"We already have Arena League guys that want to step up their efforts,” says Cundiff. “This program is really taking off."

Cundiff says all money raised by Kicking For The Dream goes directly to Colleen’s Dream Foundation, a foundation he and his wife Nicole started in 2012 as a result of his mother-in-laws’ battle with ovarian cancer. He says the 2014 fundraising effort will start in September to coincide with the NFL season.

Kicking For The Dream Reaches $30,000 Fundraising Goal to Fight Ovarian Cancer with 9 Days Left in its Fundraising Campaign

Theo nguồn tin trên mạng của The Phoenix Star With 9 days left in its fundraising campaign, Kicking For The Dream has reached its fundraising goal of $30,000 to help fight ovarian cancer, according to Kicking For The Dream founder NFL kicker Billy Cundiff

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) December 21, 2013

After surpassing its original fundraising goal of raising $20,000, Kicking For The Dream has now reached its extended fundraising goal of $30,000 according to Kicking For The Dream Founder NFL Kicker Billy Cundiff.

Cundiff says he is overwhelmed by the success of Kicking For The Dream's fundraising efforts, adding that people are still raising money – and awareness- with 9 days left in its fundraising campaign.

“We are thrilled that we have reached our goal of raising $30,000,” says Cundiff who is the kicker for the Cleveland Browns. “The people participating in Kicking For The Dreams fundraising effort continue to raise awareness about ovarian cancer, as they raise money to support cutting edge research.”

Cundiff says Kicking For The Dream was created to bring kicking specialists together -from every level- to join in the fight against ovarian cancer. And it has done exactly that.

Some of the kicking specialists who have joined Kicking For The Dream’s effort represent the greatest names in NFL kicking history such as Morten Anderson, Neil Rackers and Matt Stover. Some are high school kickers such as Grant Ryerse, Joseph Giglio and Luke Taylor.

And one very special Kicking For The Dream fundraiser is ovarian cancer survivor Jill Pall, who has already raised over $8,700 during the campaign, and learned how to kick at the same time.

“Kicking specialists are some of the most caring and generous people I know,” says Cundiff. “And the support Kicking For The Dream has received from so many kicking specialists in this fundraising effort just confirms that.”

Cundiff says all money raised by Kicking For The Dream goes directly to Colleen’s Dream Foundation, a foundation he and his wife Nicole started in 2012 as a result of his mother-in-laws’ battle with ovarian cancer.

“Many women succumb to this disease within a short period of time, because unlike cervical or breast cancer, ovarian cancer does not have a standardized early detection procedure,” says Cundiff. “That is what happened to my mother-in-law, Colleen Drury.”

Cundiff says it was Colleen’s “dream” that someday other women would not have to go through what she went through when faced with ovarian cancer.

“Colleen felt it was important to raise money for research that will lead to reliable early detection testing and improved treatment for ovarian cancer,” says Cundiff. “Because so little is known about ovarian cancer in proportion to other women’s health issues, we have an incredible opportunity for research and education.”
