New Book ‘Sitting in the Flames’ Presents Cathartic Journey to Self-Awareness

Haunted by memories of the Vietnam War, Dr. John Edwin DeVore relates his inner journey towards healing, true-self.

Mesa, Ariz. (PRWEB) March 31, 2015

“We all have an artist within waiting to be unleashed to create the life we desire,” said Dr. John Edwin DeVore. Recalling some inspiring words that he read, he goes on to say that, “Our scars tell us about our past; they do not dictate life as we intend it to be.”

Immersed in the contemplative learning environment of Naropa University, Dr. DeVore had the opportunity to revisit the mental and emotional chaos and confusion associated with two years of combat during the Vietnam War. He wrote “Sitting in the Flames” (published by Xlibris) as a form of therapy. Here, he pens an experiential autobiography created following two years of combat during the Vietnam War, coupled with priceless support in re-visiting the emotional and mental chaos of a treasured experience helping the Vietnamese people. Although painful, at times, this book also has many reflections and lessons about fear, ignorance and anger that illuminates the path for an inner journey to uncover and witness one’s true self.

A review by New York Times best-selling author Ellen Tanner Marsh states: “In clear, heartfelt prose, DeVore describes a brave and unflinching confrontation with his past, made necessary in order for him to have a more meaningful life. War, he realized, isn’t just one man’s experience-it’s a sum total experience of an entire country. To stop wars, he argues, we must understand them and why we seem to need them.”

In sharing a captivating journey towards self-awareness as a war veteran fights his inner battles, “Sitting in the Flames” is not just another war story. It is a poignant expression of the paradox of the myth of war and the experience of war that also serves to illuminate how one may transcend their mental and emotional trauma by sitting in silence and solitude with their personal wars.

The Walk a Mile Project Starts Production on Film About the GMO Controversy

Nonprofit film company Change The World Films kicks off their project on the GMO Controversy this weekend, interviewing a Canadian GMO farmer as they begin their search for the truth about GMOs

(PRWEB) March 21, 2015

Today The Walk a Mile Project starts filming in Mesa, AZ, launching the production phase of their documentary film on the GMO Controversy. The film, scheduled to be completed in mid-to-late 2016, seeks to answer the most important questions about the GMOs in our food supply, a debate that's really grown heated as of late, particularly with several states introducing their own GMO Labeling legislation.

Eric Battersby, Director at Change The World Films says, “Our goal with this first phase of The Walk a Mile Project is to see the GMO issue through to its tipping point, so that the world sees the truth about the controversy, and we can then finally work at putting it all to rest. Work is already well underway online with our GMO blogs and the GMO TRUTH podcast, and starting production on the actual documentary is just another key step in the process.”

GMOs entered our food supply nearly twenty years ago, and the controversy surrounding their introduction has slowly but steadily grown ever since. The question is, what can a nonprofit film company do to truly make a difference?

“From all the research we've seen, no one has truly taken a step back, objectively, and asked all the right questions,” Battersby responds. “There is a famous quote from Peter Drucker, 'The most serious mistakes are not being made as a result of wrong answers. The true dangerous thing is asking the wrong question.' At The Walk a Mile Project, we're very sensitive to that. We take a 'start from square one' approach, we're very thorough, and we're building and engaging our audience right out the gate. The release of this documentary we start today will essentially round out all that work, but everything we do until then is just as important.”

If anyone would like to help, Change The World Films now accepts donations online at walkamileproject.com/join-project, and people can also volunteer, apply for a committee position, or even join one of the nonprofit's elite donor programs, all directly from the website. “We really wanted to make it easy to join The Walk a Mile Project in any capacity a person might want. We're a nonprofit, so our donors, our volunteers and our core supporters are the people who truly drive our organization,” adds Mr. Battersby. “We don't walk a mile without them!”
