Phoenix Planned Major Street Restrictions – Updated Nov. 27
Drivers should be aware of the following city of Phoenix roadway restrictions and are encouraged to allow for additional travel time.
New Restrictions

Special Events
CITYSCAPE PHOENIX ICE RINK – NOVEMBER 2013 TO JANUARY 2014
Central Avenue from Jefferson to Washington streets is scheduled to be closed through January 2014.
During this event, Central Avenue through traffic will be detoured at Jefferson Street to Second Street.
Police officers will be on site to assist with traffic control.
Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.
MCDONALD’S THANKSGIVING BREAKFAST – 8 A.M. THURSDAY, NOV. 28
The McDonald’s restaurant located on the northeast corner of Central and Southern avenues will be hosting its annual Thanksgiving Day free breakfast 8 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28. Central Avenue will reopen to normal traffic at noon.
Central Avenue between Southern Avenue and Lynne Lane will be closed to all traffic during this event.
Local traffic will be maintained.
Police officers will be onsite to assist with traffic control and business access.
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and allow for additional travel time during this period.
TURKEY DAY 5K – 8 A.M. THURSDAY, NOV. 28
This event will start at 16th Avenue and Jefferson Street.
The following streets will be closed 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28:
Washington Street – First to 19th avenues
17th Avenue – Adams to Jefferson streets
Jefferson Street – Third to 19th avenues
Third Avenue – Jefferson to McKinley streets
Fourth Avenue – McKinley to Washington streets
All streets will be open to normal traffic by 11 a.m.
Police officers will be provided to assist with traffic control.
Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.
AHWATUKEE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS KICK-OFF EVENT – SATURDAY, NOV. 30
A Festival of Lights Kick-Off Event will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Desert Foothills Park on Saturday, Nov. 30.
Marketplace Way between Cathedral Rock Drive and 10th Street will be closed to through traffic from 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, to 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30.
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and allow for additional travel time during this period.
ELECTRIC LIGHT PARADE – 7 P.M. SATURDAY, DEC. 7
The Fiesta of Light Electric Light Parade route will start at Montebello Road (Phoenix Baptist Church) and proceed south on Central Avenue, east on Camelback Road, and south on Seventh Street to finish at 4200 N. Seventh St. (Veteran’s Medical Center).
There will be no bleacher construction for this event.
The following streets will be restricted as indicated below 6 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, to stage for this event:
Central Avenue – Camelback to Bethany Home roads (one southbound and one northbound lane)
The following streets will be restricted as indicated below 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, to stage for this event:
Camelback Road – Central Avenue to Seventh Street (two westbound and one eastbound lane)
Central Avenue – Camelback to Bethany Home roads (one southbound and one northbound lane)
Seventh Street – Camelback to Indian School roads (two northbound and one southbound lane)
The following streets will be closed 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, for the parade:
Central Avenue – Bethany Home to Indian School roads
Camelback Road – Seventh Avenue to 16th Street
Seventh Street – Bethany Home to Osborn roads
The following street will be closed 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, for the parade:
· Indian School Road – Central Avenue to 12th Street
All major streets, local streets, and driveways will be closed as the parade approaches and reopened as it proceeds, except for Central Avenue from Camelback to Bethany Home roads.
Local traffic will be maintained.
Police officers will be onsite to assist with traffic control and business access.
The following streets will reopen to normal traffic 11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7:
Central Avenue – Indian School to Bethany Home roads
Camelback Road – Seventh Avenue to 16th Street
Seventh Street – Bethany Home to Osborn roads
Indian School Road – Central Avenue to 12th Street
Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.
Reopening After Restrictions
CACTUS ROAD – 32ND STREET TO TATUM BOULEVARD
Cactus Road between 32nd Street and Tatum Boulevard is now open to normal traffic following the completion of a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department pavement replacement project.
INDIAN SCHOOL ROAD – 40TH TO 48TH STREETS
Indian School Road between 40th and 48th streets is open to normal traffic following the cancellation of a scheduled street improvement project. Project has been rescheduled to the spring of 2014.
SHEA BOULEVARD – 56TH TO 64TH STREETS
Shea Boulevard between 56th and 64th streets is now open to normal traffic following the completion of a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department pavement replacement project.
19TH AVE – THOMAS TO OSBORN ROADS
Nineteenth Avenue between Thomas and Osborn roads is now open to normal traffic following the completion of a city of Phoenix Water Services Department capital improvement project.
Continuing Restrictions
Broadway Road – 17th to 24th streets, partial restriction due to a Southwest Gas utility relocation project which is part of city of Phoenix Water Services Department sewer main improvements for Broadway Road, with completion scheduled for December.
McDowell Road – 40th to 48th streets, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department roadway improvement project with completion scheduled for December.
Thunderbird Road – Black Canyon (I-17) freeway and 22nd Avenue, partially restricted due a city of Phoenix Water Services Department waterline replacement project, with completion scheduled for January.
19th Avenue – Grand Avenue and McDowell Road intersection, partial restriction due to an Arizona Department of Transportation $12.7 million improvement project of US 60 (Grand Avenue). The project will include pavement improvements, road construction, and new right turn lanes and sidewalks at various locations. New lighting, landscape, screen walls, and fencing will be included in the project, with completion scheduled for January. 19th Avenue – Monte Vista Road to Culver Street, partial restriction due to an Arizona Department of Transportation $12.7 million improvement project of US 60 (Grand Avenue), with scheduled completion for January.
35th Avenue – Bethany Home Road to Missouri Avenue, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project to provide water main replacement and residential water services, with completion scheduled for January.
51st Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project widening for Lower Buckeye Road, completion scheduled for January.
Northwest light rail extension – Ongoing restrictions along 19th Avenue and cross streets related to light rail northwest extension construction. 19th Avenue between Bethany Home Road to Dunlap Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction for utility relocation.
