Sky Harbor Offers Alternatives to Ease Holiday Roadway Traffic

The Airport is offering alternatives and important travel tips to keep traffic moving for those picking up and dropping off loved ones. Terminal 4 Cell Phone Lot Moving for the Thanksgiving Holiday: In order to reduce traffic congestion near Terminal 4, Sky Harbor is moving the East Cell Phone Lot to a location that can accommodate more than four times the vehicle traffic. From 6:00 a.m. on November 22 to 6:00 a.m. December 4, the cell phone lot directly east of Terminal 4 will close and a larger cell phone lot will open on the northeast side of the Airport. Sky Harbor will provide a series of lighted signs guiding drivers to the new location, located north of East Economy Parking. For drivers entering from the west, Sky Harbor will continue to offer its cell phone lot located just west of Terminal 2. Easiest Alternative for Terminal 4 Pick-Up and Drop-Off: 44th Street & Washington Those picking up and dropping off Terminal 4 passengers can avoid traffic tie ups by using the PHX Sky Train® Station at 44th Street and Washington. From the East Valley, drivers have two options: Take the 202 west to the 44th Street exit and proceed south Drive north on State Route 143 to the Washington Street exit, drive west on Washington to 44th Street, then turn south. view map: http://www.skyharbor.com/pdf/44thStreetStationMap.pdf The 44th Street PHX Sky Train® station features a cell phone lot where drivers may wait, free of charge, while their friends or loved ones take the 5-minute ride on the train from Terminal 4. Terminal 4 serves 80 percent of Sky Harbor’s passengers on Southwest, US Airways, Aeromexico, Air Canada, British Airways, Volaris and WestJet. Terminal Garage Parking Coupon If you plan to park, Sky Harbor is offering 40% off terminal garage rates through December 5 with a coupon available at skyharbor.com. Watch Freeway Signs Drivers should watch for freeway signs providing Airport traffic updates and recommending alternate routes. Roadway traffic is expected to be busier than usual at the Airport beginning the weekend before Thanksgiving, continuing through Tuesday, December 3. Drivers are asked to watch their speed as they enter Sky Harbor and keep an eye out for officers directing traffic.
