Phoenix Planned Major Street Restrictions – Updated Oct. 12
Oct. 12, 2012 Drivers should be aware of the following city of Phoenix roadway restrictions and are encouraged to allow for additional time to travel. NEW RESTRICTIONS: CAMELBACK ROAD – 42ND TO 46TH STREETS Camelback Road between 42nd and 46th streets is scheduled to be restricted to one lane in each direction on a 24-hour basis from Monday, Oct. 15 through December for installation of major storm drains. Business and local access will be maintained. Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. This work is a joint Maricopa County Flood Control District and city of Phoenix joint and will include the construction of new storm drain pipes, waterlines and roadway asphalt. 31ST AVENUE AT CAMELBACK ROAD 31st Avenue at Camelback Road is restricted for a Capital Improvement Project to install a sewer main relief line. Camelback Road is restricted to one lane in each direction. Both directions on 31st Avenue will be restricted to right turns only from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly. All left turns will be prohibited at the intersection. Pedestrian and business access will be maintained. Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. The project is scheduled for completion by November 2012. 40TH STREET – BELL ROAD TO GREENWAY ROAD 40th Street from Bell to Greenway roads is scheduled to be restricted to one lane southbound on a 24-hour basis beginning Monday, Oct. 15. Northbound traffic will not be restricted. Business and local street access will be maintained. The project is scheduled for completion by March 2013. This is a Water Services Department, sanitary sewer rehabilitation project being constructed by Achen-Gardner. SPECIAL EVENTS: NATIVE AMERICAN RECOGNITION DAY PARADE – SATURDAY, OCT. 13 This event will take place on Third Street from Oak Street to Indian School Road. Third Street will be closed from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. All major streets, local streets and driveways will be closed as the parade approaches and reopened as it proceeds. The following major streets will be closed during the ingress and egress of the parade: • Third Street – Oak Street to Indian School Road • Thomas Road – Central Avenue to Seventh Street • Osborn Road – Central Avenue to Seventh Street • Indian School Road – Central Avenue to Seventh Street Police will be on-site to assist with traffic control. RACE FOR THE CURE – SUNDAY, OCT. 14 This event will start at 17th Avenue and Adams Street and finish at 17th Avenue and Jefferson Street. The following streets will be restricted or closed at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13: • Jefferson Street will be restricted to two lanes from 16th to 17th avenues • 17th Avenue will be closed from Adams to Jefferson streets The following streets will be closed at 4 a.m. Sunday, Oct.14: • Washington Street – Seventh to 19th avenues The following streets will be closed at 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 14: • Jefferson Street – First to 19th avenues • Washington Street – Third to 19th avenues • Seventh Avenue – Washington to Jefferson streets • 19th Avenue – Washington to Jefferson streets Access to parking facilities will be maintained. Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. All streets will be open to normal traffic by noon Sunday, Oct. 14. Drivers are encouraged to use caution when driving through this area. REOPENING AFTER RESTRICTIONS: None. CONTINUING RESTRICTIONS: • Arcadia Drive and Lafayette Boulevard – north of Indian School Road and east of 44th Street, complete restriction to through traffic and restricted to local/resident access only due to a Maricopa County Flood Control District and city of Phoenix joint project, completion scheduled for April 2013. • Broadway Road – Seventh to 16th streets, partial restriction for a Water Services Department project, completion scheduled for October. • Camelback Road – 38th to 40th streets, partial restriction due to a CenturyLink emergency repair and replacement of communications lines, completion scheduled for October. • Camelback Road – 40th to 44th Streets, partial restriction due to a Southwest Gas Corporation project, completion scheduled for November.
