Phoenix Planned Major Street Restrictions – Updated Oct. 19
Oct. 19, 2012 Drivers should be aware of the following city of Phoenix roadway restrictions and are encouraged to allow for additional time to travel. New Restrictions 40TH STREET – BELL ROAD TO GREENWAY ROAD 40th Street from Bell to Greenway roads is scheduled to be restricted to one lane southbound on a 24-hour basis beginning Monday, Oct. 29. Northbound traffic will not be restricted. Business and local street access will be maintained. The project is scheduled for completion by March 2013. Drivers are encouraged to select an alternate route or expect delays. This is a Water Services Department sanitary sewer rehabilitation project being constructed by Achen-Gardner. Special Events APS BUILDING HELICOPTER LIFT – 5 TO 10 A.M. SATURDAY, OCT. 20 The following streets are scheduled to be closed 5 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, to lift equipment onto the roof. Fifth Street – Monroe to Fillmore streets Van Buren Street – Third to Seventh streets During this work, Van Buren Street through traffic will be detoured at Seventh Street and at Third Street to either Washington or Fillmore streets. Local and business access will be maintained. Police officers will be on site to assist with traffic control. Drivers are encouraged to use caution when driving through this area. AIDS WALK – 8:30 A.M. SUNDAY, OCT. 21 This walk will start at Third Avenue and Washington Street and finish at Second Avenue and Jefferson Street. The following streets will be closed 7 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21: Jefferson Street – First to 19th avenues Washington Street – First to 17th avenues Third Avenue – Jefferson to Washington streets Police will be on site to assist with traffic control. All streets will be open to normal traffic by 11 a.m. Drivers are encouraged to use caution when driving through this area. ARIZONA STATE FAIR 5K RUN – SUNDAY, OCT. 21 This event will take place on the streets surrounding the Arizona State Fairgrounds beginning at 19th Avenue and Monte Vista Road and finishing at McDowell Road and 21st Avenue, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21. The following streets will be restricted from 7 to 11 a.m.: 15th Avenue – Thomas to McDowell roads 19th Avenue – Monte Vista to Thomas roads McDowell Road – 15th to 17th avenues Thomas Road – 15th to 19th avenues Police will be on site to assist with traffic control. Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period. FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS MEMORIAL – SUNDAY, OCT. 21 The United Phoenix Fire Fighters Association will be conducting an event that will take place on Van Buren Street from 23rd to 25th avenues 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21. Van Buren Street will be closed at 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 21. Local access will be available. Police will be on site to assist with traffic control. Drivers are encouraged to use caution when driving through this area. Reopening After Restrictions None. Continuing Restrictions Arcadia Drive and Lafayette Boulevard – north of Indian School Road and east of 44th Street, complete restriction to through traffic and restricted to local/resident access only due to a Maricopa County Flood Control District and city of Phoenix joint project, completion scheduled for April 2013. Broadway Road – Seventh to 16th streets, partial restriction due to a Water Services Department project, completion scheduled for October. Camelback Road – 38th to 40th streets, partial restriction due to a CenturyLink emergency repair and replacement of communications lines, completion scheduled for October. Camelback Road – 40th to 44th Streets, partial restriction due to a Southwest Gas Corporation project, completion scheduled for November. Northern Avenue – Black Canyon Freeway (Interstate-17) to 29th Avenue, restricted nightly due to a Southwest Gas Corporation project, completion scheduled for November.
