Phoenix Celebrates National Food Day

Oct. 19, 2012 National Food Day is Wednesday, Oct. 24. To celebrate, the Phoenix Green Team’s Green Gardening Group (G3) is hosting the “Get Growing, Get Healthy, Get Real,” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day at City Hall plaza, 200 W. Washington St., near the fountain. Crooked Sky Farms will be on hand with a lunchtime farmers market, and attendees can sample and learn about healthy food from Squash Blossom Restaurant, Chipotle, Doctor Hummus, Artisan Food and Aramark. Enjoy demonstrations by Hyatt Executive Chef Dominic Vaccaro, Classic Cooking Academy and Herbs 2 U. Other activities include: Valley Permaculture Alliance will talk about starting a community garden. ASU’s School of Nutrition and School of Sustainability will highlight its initiatives.
