The Phoenix Public Transit Department is asking the public for feedback on proposed bus service changes to several Valley Metro bus routes operated by the city of Phoenix: extension of routes in west Phoenix; modification of service to the Phoenix Zoo; and changes to routes in northeast Phoenix. If adopted by the Phoenix City Council, the proposed bus service changes would go into effect July 22, 2013. Feedback on the changes can be provided in person at a public hearing 5:30 p.m, Monday, April 8, 2013, or online. Public open houses, which are listed below, will also be held to gather public comments on proposed changes. Members of the public can talk to City of Phoenix Public Transit Department staff, and provide feedback at those meetings or during the formal public hearing. Written comments will also be accepted, and can be sent to: “July 2013 Bus Service Changes,” City of Phoenix Public Transit Department, 302 N. 1st Ave., Suite 900, Phoenix AZ 85003 or e-mailed to pubtrans@phoenix.gov until 7:00 p.m., Mon., April 8, 2013. List of proposed bus route changes by location: Phoenix Zoo Routes 1 & 3 – Proposed modification of the eastern end-of-line segments for both routes, based on public feedback, to determine the most effective service to the Phoenix Zoo; any redundant service may be eliminated. Route 56 – Proposed extension of the end-of-line segment, to provide service to the Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanical Gardens. Ahwatukee Route 56 – Change routing to serve Priest Drive between Elliot Road to Ray Road, continuing to 48th Street. Route 108 – Proposed extension of west end of route to 48th Street on Elliot Road, then on 48th Street to Frye Road, with additional peak hour service to the 40th Street / Pecos Road Park-and-Ride. Route 156 – Proposed extension of west end of route to 48th Street on Chandler Boulevard. West Phoenix Route 10 – Proposed extension of west end of route to 67th Avenue on Lower Buckeye Road. Central/South Mountain RAPID – Proposed elimination of 2 morning and 2 afternoon trips. Northeast Phoenix Route 16 – Proposed extension of weekday peak trips north to Northern Avenue on 16th Street from Glendale Avenue. Route 39 – Proposed elimination of route. Route 39 (new) – Proposed creation of new 40th Street route between Shea Boulevard and Paradise Valley Community College. Route 80 – Proposed extension to SR-51 on Northern Avenue, on SR-51 to Shea Boulevard, and on Shea Boulevard to Mayo Clinic at 136th Street. Route 106 – Proposed modification of route to end at Paradise Valley Mall Transit Center. Route 186 – Proposed extension of route to Scottsdale Road on Mayo Boulevard. Northwest Phoenix Route 122 – Proposed modification of route to end at 19th Avenue on Cactus Road; would no longer serve MetroCenter Transit Center.
