April 30, 2013 Vice Mayor Bill Gates, Councilman Daniel Valenzuela, Phoenix Police Chief Daniel Garcia and Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery will host community meetings focusing on crime prevention and victims’ rights at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at Maryvale Community Center, 4420 N. 51st Ave., and 6 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at John C. Lincoln, Cowden Center, 9202 N. Second St. Topics for discussion include: crime prevention and personal safety; victims’ rights; how to report a crime or suspicious activity; the Silent Witness reward program; web-based crime reporting; and the consequences of under-reporting crime activity. Phoenix Police will discuss the vital role crime reporting plays in reducing crimes and how the department reviews daily crime reporting stats to determine allocation of officers each day.
