Pueblo Grande Museum Offering Free Admission Oct. 19

Visitors can enjoy cooking demonstrations of traditional and native desert foods at the museum’s Traditional Kitchen, run by the Huhugam Ki Museum and can learn how volunteers and staff preserve the museum’s signature platform mound through a demonstration by the Mudslingers volunteer group. Kids also can excavate a replica pithouse as part of a free Archaeology for Kids class from 10 a.m. to noon. Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park, located at 4619 E. Washington St. in Phoenix just minutes from Sky Harbor International Airport, is home to a 1,500-year-old Hohokam village ruin and is a National Historic Landmark. Visitors can walk atop an ancient platform mound on the museum’s outdoor trail and view a ballcourt ruin, replicated houses, and native plants. Inside are three world-class galleries, including a children’s hands-on gallery.
