Food Day Festival Returns to Downtown Phoenix
Theo nguồn tin trên mạng của phoenix.gov Sept. 25, 2013 The city of Phoenix Green Team, along with other local and state departments, will be hosting this year’s free Food Day celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Cesar Chavez Plaza, 251 W. Washington St. Food Day is a nationwide celebration of healthy, affordable and sustainably produced food and a grassroots campaign for better food policies culminating in a day of action on Oct. 24. Created by the nonprofit Center for Science in the Public Interest and driven by a diverse coalition of food movement leaders and residents, Food Day aims to bring consumers closer to a food system with “real food” that is produced with care for the environment, animals and the people who grow, harvest and serve it. On Food Day, Cesar Chavez Plaza will be brought to life by local organizations helping to educate the public with cooking demonstrations, “real food” samples and other activities. In addition, the city’s FitPHX program is organizing an “apple crunch” in an attempt to set a record for the “most participants in an apple-crunching event in downtown Phoenix.” The public is encouraged to join the Phoenix Green Team and FitPHX by eating an apple at noon on Food Day. More than 55 vendors have already signed up to participate in this year’s event, including Crooked Sky Farms, Whole Foods and Chipotle. Space is still available for interested organizations and there is no charge to participate. Attendees are encouraged to share their Food Day experience on social media using the hashtag #FoodDayPHX.
