(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20131212/MN32091) The charity event is being hosted in partnership with Welcome to America Phoenix and the Iraqi American Society for Peace and Friendship. In its fourth year, the Christmas party will bring smiles to the faces of 50 young refugees. Kids will have the chance to meet Santa – some for the very first time. A luncheon and games will take place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 15, 2013, in the hotel’s lobby and meeting room. Kids will gather around a festively decorated Christmas tree to receive donated presents. They also will have fun decorating (and, likely, sampling) Christmas cookies to be enjoyed for dessert after the traditional Christmas meal. “We are delighted to host this annual event and give back to the community that supports us,” said Residence Inn General Manager Michelle Joyce. “Every year it’s such a hit with the kids. And, truth be told, it’s pretty fun for us adults involved, too!” WTAP is a nonprofit organization founded by Phil and Carolyn Manning to honor Terence Manning, Phil’s brother, who lost his life in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. Since that day that changed history, the charity has assisted more than 1,200 families with overcoming barriers often faced by refugees. WTAP helps refugees with their efforts to build a new life in Phoenix by collecting donations of furniture, household goods, clothing and food. The Iraqi American Society for Peace and Friendship is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities, advocacy and empowerment services to refugees in Phoenix, AZ, and the greater metropolitan area. The group offers women’s programs, youth outreach, employment assistance, translation services and resource referrals for housing, medical care, community programs and transportation. Refugees supported by both organizations will attend the children’s event at the extended-stay hotel in Phoenix. The hotel features three meeting rooms with 2,000 square feet of flexible space – ideal for hosting charity events, business meetings, social affairs and even holiday parties. The largest gathering space is Meeting Room A&B, which can host up to 150 Phoenix event attendees. The hotel is capable of catering for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as coffee and afternoon snack breaks. Event planners can choose from a variety of mouthwatering catering menu items, including breakfast casserole, fresh-baked assorted cookies, sandwiches served on multi-grain or sourdough bread, lasagna and roasted chicken breast with wild mushroom sauce. Event attendees have access to complimentary parking and free Wi-Fi. The extended-stay hotel in Phoenix, AZ, is less than 30 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).
