April 6, 2015 Vice Mayor Daniel Valenzuela is inviting residents to the grand reopening of the renovated Phoenix Tennis Center, 6330 N. 21st Ave., on April 11 from 9 to 11 a.m. The event will feature free youth and adult tennis instruction, free use of ball machines, refreshments and fun giveways. Crews recently completed a massive overhaul of the facility, which was once one of the premier tennis tournament facilities in the Southwest. The renovation project included installation of 25 new state-of-the-art post tension courts, new lighting, shade canopies, fencing and landscaping as well as the installation of bleacher seating and new chilled drinking fountains. “We made big things happen at the Phoenix Tennis Center by quickly bringing together residents, staff and the tennis community to map out a vision, identify funding and complete construction,” Vice Mayor Valenzuela said. “This project puts the Phoenix Tennis Center back on the map as one of the best complexes in the Southwest, and it’s a great addition to a beautiful community park.” The Phoenix Tennis Center offers court reservations, a stocked tennis shop and the services of a certified tennis professional.
