Dec. 28, 2015 Keep Phoenix Beautiful is partnering with the Phoenix Public Works Department to host the “I Recycle Phoenix” Festival from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at Christown Spectrum Mall, 1703 W. Bethany Home Road, behind Walmart Supercenter. The “I Recycle Phoenix” Festival urges residents to get rid of unnecessary items taking up space in their homes, closets and drawers by bringing them to the free event to be recycled. Computers, electronics, car seats, clothes and toys are accepted, along with ink cartridges, batteries, plastic bags, golf balls and office supplies. Live Christmas trees may be brought in to be shredded and mulched. Trees must be unbagged and free of decorations and embellishments. Residents who have CRT monitors, personal documents to be shredded, CFL light bulbs and household hazardous waste must remember the following: There is a $15 recycle fee for CRT monitors and TVs. Visit phoenixrecycles.org to see if your monitor or television is a CRT. Those who would like to watch their documents shredded on site are advised to come early. The shredding of personal documents is free, up to five banker boxes. A maximum of five CFL light bulbs to be recycled will be accepted for free. Household hazardous waste (HHW) such as paint, tires and chemicals will not be accepted at this event.
