Phoenix to Celebrate Mayor, City Council Inauguration Jan. 4 at Orpheum Theater

Dec. 29, 2015 The public is invited to attend the inauguration ceremony for the Mayor and Phoenix City Council at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, at the Orpheum Theater, 203 W. Adams St. Mayor Greg Stanton and four councilmembers re-elected in August, Thelda Williams, District 1; Bill Gates, District 3; Daniel Valenzuela, District 5; and Michael Nowakowski, District 7, will take their oaths of office. Mayor Stanton will be sworn in by Phoenix Municipal Court Chief Presiding Judge B. Don Taylor III. All the councilmembers will be sworn in by Mayor Stanton. The councilmembers will give brief remarks and be presented with an election certificate after which Mayor Greg Stanton will deliver his Inaugural Address. The ceremony also will include performances by the Phoenix Boys Choir, the Phoenix Police and Fire Honor Guard and Fiesta Mexicana. The invocation will be given by Father Fausto Peñafiel of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. The ceremony will be streamed live via social media on Periscope. Residents also can track the inauguration on social media with the hashtag PHX2016. PHXTV also will be rebroadcasting the ceremony on Ch. 11 on Cox Cable and on the city’s YouTube channel.
