Phoenix Ready to Host Downtown Pregame Party for College Football Playoff Jan. 7, 2016 The city of Phoenix is counting down to the kickoff of the Championship Campus Presented by Ak-Chin Indian Community in downtown, and not even El Niño is going to get in the way! Crews are working around the clock to set the stage for this exciting event. Know Before You Go Arrive early: There will be crowds. Pack light: Security will be tight. Click here to see what you can’t bring in. Use public transit: Light rail hours and capacity will be increased in addition to 15 park and rides. Click here for details. Driving tips: Enter/exit downtown from the west or south. Click here to see map of suggested routes. Parking: 30+ parking garages throughout downtown. Police and firefighters will be working around the clock to ensure this is a safe event. Additionally, twelve planning and resource groups, including local, federal, state, tribal and county partners, have been training in a variety of ways, including drills. Experts have also enhanced cyber security. The public is still encouraged to See Something, Say Something, and report suspicious activity to azactic.gov or call 1-877-SAVEAZ. For those traveling through Phoenix’s airports, enhanced security measures are also in place. Click here for a full listing. Reducing Waste Hosting large-scale parties means a great responsibility to clean up, and Phoenix is positioning itself to be the most sustainable city in the southwest. At Super Bowl Central last January, Phoenix achieved a 73-percent waste diversion rate! For the College Football Playoff events, Phoenix is raising the bar to achieve a 75-percent waste diversion rate.
