Nov. 10, 2016 ​The free, weekly FitPHX Meet Me Downtown Phoenix (MMDT) walk/run will celebrate its second birthday on Monday, Nov. 14, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Check-in and registration opens at 4:30 p.m. at Copper Blues restaurant at CityScape Phoenix. Special activities are planned along the 3.2-mile route that takes participants through three downtown parks and past numerous businesses, restaurants and landmarks. Participants check in each week at Copper Blues restaurant before heading out to tour the downtown cityscape. A “MMDTPHX” hand stamp provides identification for Monday evening discounts at more than 20 participating restaurants and businesses. Passionate regulars and first-time eventgoers at the Nov. 14 event will be supported by staff of MMDT title sponsor Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ), city of Phoenix and Downtown Phoenix Inc. (DPI) staff, a dozen MMDT volunteers, and many other partnering organizations. Raffle prizes at the 6:45 p.m. closing ceremony include Fitbits donated by BCBSAZ, numerous gift cards to MMDT downtown restaurants and Sole Sports Running Zone gift certificates. Additional MMDT Birthday Bash highlights include: Sutra Yoga Studios will be hosting a free yoga class in Patriots Park/CityScape Phoenix from 5 to 6 p.m. Come out and enjoy a free yoga class in beautiful Downtown Phoenix Health Fair at Patriots Park/CityScape Phoenix with the BCBSAZ Health & Wellness team sharing health and wellness tips, offering mini pre-prepared samples of the winning Girl Scouts – Arizona Cactus-Pine Council recipe, as well as Supply Nourishing Arizona fresh produce bags with the ingredients of the winning recipe to create at home with family or with friends. The Phoenix Suns Gorilla high-fiving participants at 5:30 p.m. Special event live performers, games and various fitness activities will be set up along the walking route and activated in the three downtown parks – Heritage Square, Hance Park, and Civic Space Park. Make a stop at Civic Space Park along the route and learn how to play Pickleball, a game to get you and the entire family active. The rules are simple and the game is fun. Birthday cake treat and awards ceremony for participants starting at 6:45 p.m. at Patriots Park/CityScape Phoenix. In just two years, Meet Me Downtown Phoenix has attracted almost 17,000 participants, with more than 350 people attending 10 times or more and earning a t-shirt. Two of our MMDT athletes still have perfect attendance and will be celebrated at the event; walking/running each Monday despite rain storms and 110-degree weather. MMDT is a fun, social, non-competitive walk/run held every Monday from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m., regardless of rain, shine or holidays.
