Eleven City Pools Open July 4 July 3, 2014, 12:00 AM The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department will open 11 pools this Friday, July 4 to give residents a chance to cool off on the official holiday. Phoenix pools typically are closed Fridays but with many people home from work for the Independence Day holiday, the department wanted to provide a place for families to get active, cool off and spend time together. Cortez, El Prado, Encanto, Falcon, Hermoso, Maryvale, Paradise Valley, Pecos, Perry, Sunnyslope, and Washington pools will be open this Friday, July 4 from 1 to 7 p.m. The Friday operating hours are for the July 4 holiday only, and all pools will resume normal weekday operations, which include Friday closures, on July 7. Daily admission at Phoenix city pools is $3 for adults and $1 for seniors age 50 and over and youth age 17 and under. El Prado, Encanto, Falcon, Hermoso, Maryvale, Perry and Washington pools are part of the Kool Kids program, which means free admission at these locations to all youths ages 17 and under. The department will fund the one-day holiday operation by finding savings in the budget throughout the current fiscal year through next June.
