July 25, 2014 Drivers should be aware of the following city of Phoenix roadway restrictions and are encouraged to allow for additional travel time. New Restrictions CHANDLER BOULEVARD – DESERT FOOTHILLS PARKWAY TO 16TH STREET Chandler Boulevard from Desert Foothills Parkway to 16th Street is currently restricted through Sunday, Nov. 30. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction. Pedestrian, bus stop and business access will be maintained. This is a city of Phoenix Water Services Department 12-inch water main upgrade project. For additional information, call the Project Hotline at 602-235-2896. Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period. VAN BUREN STREET – 75TH TO 83RD AVENUES Van Buren Street between 75th and 83rd avenues is currently restricted on a 24-hour basis until Thursday, Aug. 14. Van Buren Street is restricted to one lane in each direction. Left turns are restricted for eastbound and westbound traffic Bus stop, pedestrian and business access will be maintained at all times. This restriction is for the installation of a feeder gas line for Southwest Gas Company. Inspection is being conducted by the city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department. Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period. VAN BUREN STREET AND 83RD AVENUE INTERSECTION The intersection of Van Buren Street and 83rd Avenue is scheduled to be restricted on Saturday, July 26, and Sunday, July 27. The intersection will be restricted to one through lane in each direction. Left turns at the intersection will be prohibited. Right turns will be permitted as work conditions allow. Bus stop, pedestrian and business access will be maintained at all times. Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. This is a Southwest Gas Corporation project for the installation of a feeder gas line. Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period. 35TH AVENUE AND BETHANY HOME ROAD INTERSECTION The intersection of 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road is scheduled to be restricted on a 24-hour basis for the weekend of Saturday, July 26, to Monday, July 28. The closure will begin 5 a.m. Saturday, and end 6 a.m. Monday. Traffic on 35th Avenue will be restricted to one through lane in each direction with no left turns allowed. Bethany Home Road traffic will be restricted to one through lane in each direction with no left turns allowed. Bus stop, pedestrian and business access will be maintained at all times. This is a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project to provide a water main replacement and residential water services. Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period. 67TH AVENUE AND VAN BUREN STREET INTERSECTION The intersection of 67th Avenue at Van Buren Street is scheduled to be restricted from Sunday, July 27, to Sunday, August 10. Northbound, southbound and westbound traffic will be restricted to one through lane. Eastbound traffic will be maintained in two through lanes. Left turns at the intersection will be prohibited. Right turns will be maintained in all directions. Local and business access will be maintained. This is a Southwest Gas Corporation project for the installation of a gas main. Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control. Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period. Special Events None. Reopening After Restrictions INDIAN SCHOOL ROAD – 56TH TO 58TH STREETS Indian School Road between 56th and 58th streets is now open to normal traffic following completion of a Southwest Gas Corporation infrastructure improvement project. Expect occasional restrictions for follow-up activities. JOMAX ROAD – NORTERRA PARKWAY TO 19TH AVENUE Jomax Road between Norterra Parkway and 19th Avenue is now open to normal traffic following completion of a Planning and Development Services project to install an 8-inch sewer line to serve a new development project east of North Valley Parkway and Jomax Road. 51ST AVENUE – SOUTHERN AVENUE TO BROADWAY ROAD t51st Avenue between Southern Avenue and Broadway Road is now open to normal traffic following work for the city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department “Avenida Rio Salado” project. Expect occasional restrictions for follow-up activities due to continuing restrictions in effect in the area. Continuing Restrictions • Bethany Home Road – 31st to 35th avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project to provide a water main replacement and residential water services, with completion scheduled for July. • Broadway Road and 16th Street intersection, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Services Department sewer main improvement, with completion scheduled for July. • Broadway Road – 15th to 24th streets, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Services Department sewer main improvement, with completion scheduled for December. • Broadway Road “Avenida Rio Salado” – Central to 15th avenues is partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project to provide “connectivity” to the west valley, with completion scheduled for July. During the “Avenida Rio Salado” project, Broadway Road will be restricted between Seventh Street and 51st Avenue. • Deer Valley Road and Black Mountain Boulevard intersection, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Planning and Development Department road widening and improvements project, with completion scheduled for August. • Greenway Parkway between Seventh and 19th avenues, full closure due to the demolition and construction of the Cave Creek Wash Bridge located on Greenway Parkway between 14th Avenue and 17th Drive, with completion scheduled for August. Greenway Parkway will reopen with minor restrictions on Monday, Aug. 11. • Indian School Road – 10th to 16th streets, partial restriction due to a Southwest Gas Corporation infrastructure improvement project for a new natural gas main, with completion scheduled for August. • Lower Buckeye Road – 43rd to 51st avenues, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project widening Lower Buckeye Road, with completion scheduled for December. • Seventh Street – Roosevelt Street to Thomas Road, partial restriction due to an Arizona Public Service infrastructure improvement project, completion scheduled for August. • 19th Avenue – Grand Avenue and McDowell Road intersection, partial restriction due to an Arizona Department of Transportation $12.7 million improvement project of US 60 (Grand Avenue). The project will include pavement improvements, road construction, and new right turn lanes and sidewalks at various locations. New lighting, landscape, screen walls, and fencing will be included in the project, with completion scheduled for July. For additional information, email projects@azdot.gov or call the Project Hotline at 855-712-8530. • 24th Street – Broadway Road to University Drive, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Water Services Department sewer improvement project that requires major storm drain modifications at 24th Street and Jones Avenue, with scheduled completion for July. • 33rd Avenue and Camelback Road intersection, partial restriction due to the installation of a fire line and ADA pedestrian ramps, and for the removal and installation of traffic signal foundations and poles, with completion scheduled for August. The city of Phoenix Planning and Development Department is providing inspection services for this construction. • 35th Avenue – Bethany Home Road to Missouri Avenue, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project to provide water main replacement and residential water services, with completion scheduled for July. • 43rd Avenue – Lower Buckeye Road to Buckeye Road, partial restriction due to a city of Phoenix Street Transportation Department capital improvement project widening of Lower Buckeye Road and 43rd Avenue, with completion scheduled for December. • Northwest light rail extension – Ongoing restrictions along 19th Avenue and cross streets related to light rail northwest extension construction. 19th Avenue between Bethany Home Road to Dunlap Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction for utility relocation.
