Phoenix's Children's Hospital and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Pilot State's First Childhood Obesity Clinic

Theo nguồn tin trên trang của prnewswire.com

Effort to combat childhood obesity epidemic starts with the patient and family, physician and community

PHOENIX, July 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The mental, physical and financial impact of childhood obesity is challenging American youth in every state. For Arizona, the numbers are staggering: 25 percent of Arizona’s youth are categorized as overweight or obese, and the state holds the seventh-highest percentage (19.8%) of obese teens in the nation.1 In an effort to curb this trend and reduce childhood obesity and related illnesses, Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ) are joining together to create the state’s first collaboration between a health plan and hospital focused on childhood obesity. BCBSAZ has provided Phoenix Children’s with resources to launch a childhood obesity clinic serving 100 pediatric patients in a one-year pilot program. Spearheaded by BCBSAZ Chief Medical Officer, Vishu Jhaveri, MD, MSA and Phoenix Children’s pediatrician, Kristen Samaddar, MD, FAAP, the program targets eligible patients ages 2-18. “Childhood obesity is one of the most common issues we address. Our goal is to emphasize healthy eating and active living at every preventative care encounter,” said Dr. Samaddar. “We’ll provide personalized nutrition and fitness education, help families set personal health goals, order recommended screenings and closely monitor success. We’ll also provide coaching between visits and connect families to local school and community resources that promote health and fitness. By creating a team with families, physicians, insurance companies, schools and community organizations, we believe it is possible to overcome childhood obesity and help kids have a healthy future.” The HEALTH (Healthy Eating Active Living Total Health) clinic will reside at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and apply principles of the patient-centered medical home model, which empowers the primary care physician to orchestrate patient care. “By organizing care around the patient with clear criteria, we are working together to track outcomes through the involvement of the physician, patient and family, and community,” said Dr. Jhaveri. The clinic will also utilize the 5-2-1-0 initiative long supported by BCBSAZ and the American Academy of Pediatrics. This initiative encourages children to eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables, engage in 2 hours or less of screen time, get 1 hour of physical activity and have 0 sweetened drinks each day. A few of the collaboration’s top-line goals include: Implementing a program to reduce childhood obesity through health and wellness; Increasing fruit and vegetable consumption among patients; Developing a long–term, evidence-based model to decrease childhood obesity; and Creating an outcome-based program between the health plan and provider community. About Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ), an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, is the largest Arizona-based health insurance company. How Not to Wreck a Reputation Over the Fourth of July from Phoenix Reputation Management Firm

Theo nguồn tin trên trang của prweb.com

Phoenix, Arizona (PRWEB) July 03, 2014

This Fourth of July weekend, as with every celebration weekend of the day that the country’s Declaration of Independence from England was adopted, there will be many celebrations held throughout the United States. Because the holiday falls during the summertime, many people will celebrate with barbeques, fireworks and more. The Fourth of July is also one of the weekends with the highest rates of arrests, drunk driving arrests and more. This holiday weekend, the Phoenix online reputation management firm of Reputation Maxx is providing individuals with ways that they can safeguard their online landscape.

1. Don’t Drink and Post
The Fourth of July weekend usually brings with it lots of drinking and carrying on. While this is good fun when done in moderation, people need to be careful about how much partying is seen online. Posting pictures of friends who are clearly intoxicated on social media doesn’t look good for anyone. As more and more employers look online to see what applicants look like, a publicly posted Fourth of July binge on social media can mean the difference between getting the job and being passed over, shares Phoenix reputation management firm Reputation Maxx. This especially rings true for recent college graduates.

2. Don’t Post Illegal Activities
While everyone likes fireworks, they aren’t always exactly legal in many places. This could be due to the proximity of homes in the area or due to the draughts that many places throughout the United States are experiencing. Regardless of the reason, people should refrain from posting videos and pictures of themselves lighting off fireworks where doing so is prohibited.

3. Consider Changing Privacy Settings
If, at the end of the day, people just can’t resist posting pictures of themselves at parties or getting into Fourth of July shenanigans, they should consider changing the privacy settings on their social media profiles.

“Remember that private doesn’t always mean completely private, though,” warned Scottsdale reputation expert and CEO of Reputation Maxx, Walter Halicki. “There are ways to get around privacy settings on any social media platform, so you should still be careful about what you post.”

If individuals do end up damaging the way that they look online this holiday weekend, they can enlist the services of the Phoenix reputation management firm, Reputation Maxx.

Reputation Maxx is a part of a fine family of companies including JW Maxx Solutions, Prensa Ahora and Enterate Ahora, offering positive media solutions for both individuals and businesses. For more information, visit http://www.reputationmaxx.com.

Grand Canyon University Launches New College To Focus On Science, Technology, Engineering And Math

Theo nguồn tin trên trang của prweb.com

PHOENIX, July 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Grand Canyon University is creating a new College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET) to better align its academic offerings with the school’s focus on STEM education and job opportunities in those fields. CSET will include computer science and information technology programs that will launch this fall, engineering programs that are planned for 2015, and existing programs such as biology pre-med, pre-physical therapy, pre-physician assistant, pre-pharmacy, exercise science and forensic science that had been housed in the College of Arts and Sciences. “We’ve seen such huge demand from students in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and we knew we needed to develop the best possible learning environment for those disciplines,” said Dr. Mark Wooden, dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology. “Creating this new college really allows us to focus on the needs of those students.” Research from the Washington-based non-profit group Change the Equation found that there are 1.7 STEM jobs for every one unemployed person in Arizona, compared with more than four unemployed people for every one non-STEM job. “Educating a stronger STEM workforce in Arizona will help fill those needs,” Wooden said, “and also help Arizona attract more high-tech companies that count on having that workforce in place.” Wooden previously served as dean of GCU’s College of Arts and Sciences, which is being split. Lab-based sciences, technology and engineering will now fall under CSET, while traditional liberal arts programs will become part of the new College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) under the direction of acting dean Dr. Sherman Elliot. CHSS is applying a similar employment-focused mindset to its programs, which include communications, counseling, English literature, history, justice studies, psychology and sociology. “Our humanities and social science programs focus on application and critical thinking,” Elliot said of the new humanities college. “These programs hold immense value to students who are looking for the opportunity to apply their skills in a wide range of industries.” GCU currently has nearly 50 percent of its traditional students studying in the hard sciences. GCU offers more than 150 bachelors, masters and doctoral programs, emphases and certificates. To learn more about the new colleges, visit www.gcu.edu/newcolleges. Grand Canyon University was founded in 1949 and is Arizona’s premier private Christian university. GCU is regionally accredited and emphasizes individual attention for both traditional undergraduate students and the working professional. GCU offers traditional programs on its growing campus, as well as online bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs. The University’s curriculum fuses academic and clinical rigor with Christian values to prepare its students to be skilled, caring professionals. For more information about GCU, visit gcu.edu.
