Theo nguồn tin trên trang của phoenix.gov

Aug. 12, 2015 The City Clerk is reminding voters that City Clerk Department elections staff do not visit residences to pick up ballots. Voters recently have reported to city staff that individuals have come to their doors stating that they work for city elections and that they are there to pick up the voter’s early ballot to return it. The individuals also reportedly are asking questions about how the resident voted. City elections staff would never ask a voter how they voted. Further, City Election staff would have a photo identification as a City Clerk Department employee. As a reminder, to be counted, early ballots must be received by election officials by 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25. Voters can return an early ballot either by mail or by delivering it to any voting location. If a voter needs someone to return an early ballot for them, it should be someone they know or trust. More information about the election is available online at phoenix.gov/elections or by contacting the City Clerk Department by phone at 602-261-VOTE (8683), TTY 602-534-2737. Motorcyclist Chris Mengel will Ride Cross Country to Raise Funds and Awareness for Ovarian Cancer Research and to Support Colleen’s Dream Foundation

Theo nguồn tin trên trang của prweb.com

(PRWEB) AUGUST 10, 2015 To support Colleen’s Dream Foundation in their fight against ovarian cancer, motorcyclist, Chris Mengel, will ride his Goldwing Motorcycle over 2,000 miles to raise funds and awareness for ovarian cancer research. His ride will end in Arizona on September 26, 2015, to coincide with Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Mengel, who lost his wife Ashlyn to ovarian cancer in 2013, says his ride is an effort to do something about the disease that had such a terrible impact on his life; and the life of someone he loved. “Ashlyn was an amazing woman,” says Mengel. “She was a loving and devoted wife, a caring and nurturing mother, an amazing pianist and organist, she had a tremendous heart for God, and a beautiful, strong and rich faith that enabled her to faithfully serve throughout her treatment. We often dreamed about traveling together later in life, so this seemed like a fitting way to honor her.” Click here for more about Chris Mengel’s ride, or to make a tax deductible contribution to his effort. Mengel said he recently found out about Colleen’s Dream Foundation from the family of his new wife, Kimberly. He said he decided to reach out to the organization see if there was something he could do to help in the fight against ovarian cancer. “I spoke to Colleen’s Dream Foundation’s Executive Director Nicole Cundiff last December on Ashlyn’s birthday,” says Mengel. “Nicole and I had a wonderful conversation. I enjoyed learning about Nicole’s mother, Colleen Drury (who passed from ovarian cancer), and her life and legacy. Nicole was very moved by my story.” “After that conversation, I wanted to help,” says Mengel. “But I decided I wanted to do something different. When I learned that Colleen also rode a motorcycle, that got my wheels turning – literally. I spoke to Nicole and her husband, Billy, about the idea of a charity ride in September to go along with Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and they were all in!” Cundiff says the ride will take place on September 26, 2015 and riders will meet at 9 am for breakfast at Harold’s in Cave Creek to prepare for the ride. Daniel Piacquadio, an owner of Harold’s Corral, says they are honored to be part of this event. “Harold’s Corral is very proud to support Colleen’s Dream Foundation and to be part of this event,” says Piacquadio. “We love the dedication and commitment from this organization and what they have accomplished in a short period of time. They are making a difference!! We all have been touched by someone affected with cancer and we look forward to the day that all cancers are eliminated. We also felt this to be a perfect way to kick off Harold’s 80th anniversary party.” Cundiff says Arizona Harley-Davidson will be having a huge demo event that day – there will be live music and they will be serving lunch to all attendees. “Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson® couldn’t be more proud to host a welcome party for Colleen’s Dream Ride,” says Phillip McKee, a representative from Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson. “The work that Nicole and Chris are doing is so important to our community and so many more just like it dealing with this disease. Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson has spent 50 years serving the Valley of the Sun, and it’s organizations like Colleen’s Dream that will help insure the next 50 are the best for us all!” Although this ride is in remembrance of his late wife Ashlyn, Mengel says there is one other –well actually two other- important reasons for engaging in this fundraiser: his daughters. “I want to be an example to my daughters,” says Mengel. “I want them to see that you can accomplish big goals when you put your mind –and your heart- to them.” Mengel says the ride will take between four and five days. His goal is to get pledges for every mile he rides up to 2,000 miles. Click here for more about Chris Mengel’s ride, or to make a tax deductible contribution to his effort. ABOUT COLLEEN’S DREAM FOUNDATION: Colleen’s Dream Foundation started in 2012 and supports research for early detection and improved treatment for ovarian cancer. The story of Colleen’s Dream started in 2007 when Colleen Drury –Nicole Cundiff’ mother and Billy Cundiff’s mother-in-law- was diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer. The family became aware of a new world that was filled with invasive surgery, harsh chemotherapy, and lots of uncertainty, and realized they needed to help others who were dealing with ovarian cancer. Colleen’s Dream Foundation believes it is important to raise money for research that will lead to reliable early detection testing and improved treatment for ovarian cancer. Because so little is known about ovarian cancer in proportion to other women’s health issues, there is an incredible opportunity for research and education. Colleen’s Dream Foundation is a qualified 501 (c) (3) tax exempt non-profit organization based in Phoenix, Arizona. Parker & Sons Offers Advice for Surviving the Sweltering Arizona Summer

Summer in Arizona can seem to be an inhospitable wasteland. At times it is, indeed. The 120 degrees temperatures, arid climate, and noxious wildlife (snakes, scorpions, and lizards) are all potential assailants in the summer months.

PHOENIX, Aug. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Summer in Arizona can seem to be an inhospitable wasteland. At times it is, indeed. The 120 degree temperatures, arid climate, and noxious wildlife (snakes, scorpions, and lizards) are all potential assailants in the summer months. But another insidious threat involves a dysfunctional AC system. You can assert with confidence that the Arizona summer will quickly turn into a scene from Dante’s Inferno as soon as the AC malfunctions. And thus, Parker & Sons is pleased to offer a few tips for the summer months as well as a discount for an AC checkup which can be found here. Logo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20150806/256651LOGO “The summer months can be dangerous and we encourage everyone in Phoenix to drink plenty of water and avoid exposure to the sun. Also don’t hesitate to give us a call if you have any HVAC needs.” said Josh Kelly, at Parker & Sons. Indeed, the Arizona summer is dangerous but a few helpful precautions can make the time pass quickly. First and foremost, vigilantly hydrating is a necessity. Drinking a gallon of water, avoiding excessive alcohol and coffee consumption, and staying clear of the sun are all highly advisable. And if you notice any of the following symptoms then you ought to visit the emergency room immediately: dry mouth, dizziness, headaches, fainting, confusion, or flushing of the skin. Another tip for surviving the scorching sun involves planning your vacation during the summer months. Arizona is near several excellent summer vacation retreats: Park City, Utah, Boulder, Colorado, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Mazatlan, Mexico (to name a few). A few weeks away from the heat will leave you feeling fresh and revivified. Having your AC in good working order, taking a vacation, and remaining hydrated will keep you safe in the summer months. But perhaps the best tip is this: “always keep perspective.” Remind yourself that for four months of the year Arizona is an inferno and for the other eight months a paradise. Remind yourself that this too shall pass and once again the valley will come alive with joy and comfort. Arizona Dairy Farmers give back to community by supporting education through milk mustache contest

Theo nguồn tin trên trang của prnewswire.com

PHOENIX, Aug. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — With nearly 100 dairy farms in Arizona and 1.5 million gallons of milk produced every day, there is no question that Arizona has a thriving agriculture industry and a commitment to producing high-quality milk. With the launch of Arizona Milk Producers annual scholarship program, their commitment extends beyond cows to our community where students have the chance to earn $30,000 worth of scholarship money. Arizona high school seniors and college students can win one of three scholarships simply by taking a milk mustache photo and uploading it to Instagram or the Arizona Milk Producers website. The first-place winner will receive a $12,000 scholarship, the second-place winner will receive $10,000 and the third-place winner will receive $8,000. Throughout the program students will be awarded tickets to ASU, NAU and UofA football games. Students can start entering Monday, Aug. 3, 2015. “The Kerr family has been providing nutritious milk to Arizonans for four generations,” said Bill Kerr, owner of Kerr Family Dairy. “Our roots are here so our commitment to community goes beyond producing high quality, farm-fresh milk and I’m thrilled to be part of a program helping students earn an education.” To enter, students need to upload a photo of their best milk mustache to Instagram while tagging @azmilkproducers and using the hashtag #ampscholarshipcontest. The photo must feature a dairy product, such as milk, yogurt or cheese, and the student must also specify which college football tickets they want by using the following hashtags: #asu, #uofa or #nau. Applicants are encouraged to be creative with their photos, showing how dairy plays a role in their day-to-day lives. Last year’s first-place winner was a senior at Youngker High School in Buckeye. Meaggan’s winning image depicted her donning a milk mustache while enjoying vanilla milk and standing next to a baby calf. Meaggan is currently attending Northern Arizona University (NAU). “I am defined most by my ability to set goals and commit to them. My family and faith are truly what guides me and have allowed me to work hard in gaining an education,” said Meaggan. “Thanks to Arizona Dairy Farmers, I was able to pay one semester of tuition with leftover funds and am so grateful to be studying at NAU.” Starting Aug. 24 and continuing throughout the 2015 college football season, each week three contestants will win a pair of tickets to the next ASU, NAU or UofA home football game. From this group of weekly winners, 15 finalists will be selected based on their entry and will receive a pair of seats to the Fiesta Bowl football game on Jan. 1, 2016. At the Fiesta Bowl game, the top three scholarship winners will be announced. Scholarship nominees must be Arizona residents eligible for the 2016 term or currently enrolled with a minimum of 12 credit hours at an Arizona university.
