Phoenix's FearCON Festival is Expanding to Two Days

Arizona’s largest independent horror film festival will be held outdoors for the first time on Nov. 1-2 in Phoenix.

PHOENIX, Aug. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The 6th annual FearCON festival, Arizona’s largest independent horror film festival, has expanded, becoming a two-day outdoor event for the first time. It will be held Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 1-2, taking over the Fear Farm, located at 2209 N 99th Ave., in Phoenix. Photo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20140806/134251 Logo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20140806/134343 “In previous years, we held FearCON at various movie theaters around the Phoenix area,” said festival director Chris McLennan. “We’ve been growing every year and expect to have our largest turnout ever in November. So we’re going outdoors. This is going to be our breakout year.” FearCON (www.phoenixfearcon.com) features independent films, entertainers, panel discussions, Special FX Demonstrations, T.A.R.D.I.S. will be there for Dr Who Fans, screen writers, paranormal investigators and a Saturday night concert by Hardwire and Epitaph Romance. There will be celebrity Guests from “The Walking Dead” “Sharknado 2” and “American Horror Story.” In addition, there will be an opportunity to work side-by-side as apprentice Paranormal Investigators, with the Crossing Over Paranormal Society (C.O.P.S.), on a project “Fear Sensory Overload.” For tickets to FearCON, visit www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/645649?utm_medium=bks. Because FearCON will be operating outdoors for the first time, the festival needs a large canopy for the safety and comfort of attendees. “We want to take care of our fans, and make sure that the location is covered to protect them from too much sun, rain or wind,” he said. McLennan needs $9,000 to cover the cost of the canopy plus labor and city permits. To generate this capital, she has launched an Indiegogo campaign, which can be viewed at www.indiegogo.com/projects/we-need-a-canopy-at-the-phoenix-fearcon-vi. Donations of any amount are welcome and discounted tickets are available for those who support this project. For a contribution of $25, backers will receive a one-day pass ($35 value) plus a FearCON sticker and poster. For a $50 donation, a two-day pass (regularly $55) is available as well as a festival sticker and poster. A $1,000 pledge gets you a VIP weekend pass to FearCON plus a pre-show party, meals and a festival T-shirt. “We have a lot of horror fans in the Phoenix area and we’re counting on them to help support this project,” said Chris McLennan. “You can’t really have an outdoor event in this part of the country without a canopy.” For additional information, visit www.indiegogo.com/projects/we-need-a-canopy-at-the-phoenix-fearcon-vi; the FearCON website, www.phoenixfearcon.com; or the FearCON Facebook page, www.facebook.com/phoenixfearcon. City Water Services Receives National Award for Wastewater Treatment Excellence

Theo nguồn tin trên trang của phoenix.gov

Aug. 1, 2014 The National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) recently recognized the City of Phoenix for continued environmental excellence at its 23rd Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant. The plant earned NACWA’s Platinum Peak Performance Award for five consecutive years of perfect National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit compliance. “I know how dedicated our City employees are, but it’s great to see national groups recognize their work too,” said Mayor Greg Stanton. “This sends a strong message about our commitment to protecting our environment and building a more sustainable city,” he said. NACWA is a nationally-recognized leader in environmental policy, water quality, and ecosystem protection issues. “This award recognizes that Phoenix is a leader in water quality and ecosystem protection,” said Councilwoman Thelda Williams. Phoenix treats 250 million gallons of wastewater each day after receiving it through 5,000 miles of sewer lines. The city treats wastewater from 2.5 million people in Phoenix, Glendale, Mesa, Scottsdale, and Tempe. Phoenix Water Services Department The City of Phoenix Water Services Department is more than 100 years old and treats and distributes tap water to 1.5 million customers over approximately 540 square miles. Water Services also manages Phoenix’s sewer system, and handles wastewater treatment operations for 2.5 million residents in five Valley cities. Water Services infrastructure includes 7,000 miles of water lines, 5,000 miles of sewer lines, seven treatment plants, 50,000 fire hydrants and 90,000 manholes. Phoenix’s water and sewer rates are among the lowest of comparable-sized cities nationwide. Phoenix’s tap water supply is in very good shape due to decades of planning and multiple water sources. Phoenix performs more than five million tests and measurements each year to meet or surpass stringent water quality regulations. The city reuses nearly all of its wastewater on crops, wetlands and energy production. Contact: Victoria Welch Phone Number: Office: 602-262-5060, Cell: 602-390-1062
