American Airlines Adds Second Daily Flight to Hermosillo

American Airlines Adds Second Daily Flight to Hermosillo

Aug. 9, 2019
Phoenix, AZ – American Airlines has announced they are adding a second daily flight from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to Hermosillo, Mexico. Service will begin on December 18. Flights will leave Hermosillo at 9 a.m, arriving in Phoenix at 10:19 a.m. then depart Phoenix at 7:14 p.m. and arrive in Hermosillo at 8:43 p.m.

Like American’s current flight to Hermosillo, this flight will be served by a Bombardier CRJ-700 containing 70 seats. The flight will be operated by SkyWest.

The extra daily flight to Hermosillo will provide an economic boost to both Arizona and Mexico. With a strong trade and tourism partnership, the flight will provide a vital connection between the two cities. In fact, the economic impact of international flights on the local community is more than $3 billion dollars.

Earlier this year, American Airlines announced it would begin nonstop service from Phoenix to Chihuahua. Phoenix Sky Harbor already offers service to nine other cities in Mexico. Phoenix Sky Harbor also offers service to more than 100 destinations across the U.S., as well as Canada, Costa Rica, Germany, and the United Kingdom. To find out more about where you can fly from Phoenix Sky Harbor, your most convenient international gateway, visit skyharbor.com/flyPHX.

Quotes from Phoenix City Council

“Adding a second daily flight between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Hermosillo, Mexico increases nonstop options for passengers, making this a significant cross-border trade, investment and leisure travel stop for both cities. American Airlines’ expansion underscores their commitment to meet our customers’ travel needs.”

Councilwoman Thelda Williams, District 1

Chair Transportation, Infrastructure and Innovation Subcommittee

“The addition of a second, nonstop service between Phoenix and Hermosillo was the result of the close partnership the City of Phoenix has with our trade offices in Hermosillo. This is a project Councilwoman Williams and I knew Phoenix needed and urged staff in the Hermosillo office to work to make happen. This new flight speaks volumes about the impact our trade partnerships in Mexico are having. I am proud to see this new flight become a reality.”

Councilwoman Laura Pastor, District 4

Member of the Transportation, Infrastructure and Innovation Subcommittee

“Additional flight service between Phoenix and Hermosillo makes economic sense for both American Airlines and Phoenix. The states of Arizona and Sonora, where Hermosillo is located, are major trade partners and additional airline services will continue to strengthen this powerful trade and tourism partnership.”

Councilwoman Betty Guardado, District 5

Member of the Transportation, Infrastructure and Innovation Subcommittee

“In the last 12 months, Arizona exported $22 billion in goods and products with more than half of those exports going to Mexico. American’s newest flight to Hermosillo from Phoenix will not only serve an important part of our daily commerce with Mexico but will also provide another flight option for Arizona residents who travel there frequently.”

Councilman Michael Nowakowski, District 7

Hãng hàng không Eurowings của Đức sẽ bắt đầu các chuyến bay trực tiếp từ Phoenix đến Frankfurt từ ngày 29 tháng 4 năm 2020

Lufthansa’s Eurowings to begin Phoenix – Frankfurt Flight in 2020

Aug. 7, 2019
Phoenix, AZ – Eurowings, a Lufthansa Group airline, has announced the start of new nonstop flights between Frankfurt, Germany and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Service on the Airbus 330-200 aircraft will begin April 29, 2020, five days per week until November (Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri, Sun). Flights will leave Frankfurt at 2:05 PM, arriving in Phoenix at 5:05 PM then depart Phoenix at 6:55 PM, arriving in Frankfurt the next day at 3:05 PM.

The aircraft will have a three-class configuration, with 22 business class seats, 17 premium class seats and an economy class offering 231 seats. In total, the flights will have a capacity of 270.

“We are thrilled to connect the Phoenix metropolitan area with Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub, where we offer over 200 connecting flights to cities across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Phoenix is one of the top growth areas in the Southwest, with a robust economy that has links to companies in Europe and beyond. The new Eurowings flights will definitely usher in a new era for both leisure and business travelers alike in Arizona and throughout the Lufthansa network,” said Frank Naeve, Vice President of Sales, The Americas, Lufthansa Group.

As part of the Lufthansa Group, Eurowings currently offers U.S. service from German cities to Miami, Fort Myers, Newark, New York’s JFK and Las Vegas. Along with Phoenix, the airline will also launch Frankfurt-Anchorage, Munich-Las Vegas and Munich-Orlando service in the 2020 summer schedule. Flights go on sale today. More information about the airline can be found here: https://www.lufthansa.com/us/en/lufthansa-group-star-alliance-and-partner-airlines.

Condor Airlines began nonstop seasonal service from Phoenix Sky Harbor to Frankfurt in May 2018. It was so successful that they quickly announced an expansion. Phoenix had service to Dusseldorf and Frankfurt, Germany on LTU and Lufthansa Airlines from 2001-2003. Sky Harbor has had daily service to London on British Airways since 1996.

Phoenix international flights add over $3 Billion to the local economy each year per the Airport’s most recent economic impact study. Just the daily nonstop to London is responsible for $2.3 million a day being injected into the Greater Phoenix economy.

The Phoenix City Council approved an updated airline incentive program, allowing for funds to promote overseas flights. This is standard procedure at most major airports today and can tip the scales when an airline is choosing between cities. The funds are 100% from airport revenues- not tax dollars. The Arizona Office of Tourism, along with the convention bureaus of Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert and Glendale are also financially supporting the effort.

Quotes from Phoenix Mayor and City Council

“Phoenix is a global city in every sense of the word. The success of our economy, our culture, and our future greatly depend upon our ability to successfully connect with urban centers around the world. Sky Harbor has already added three new international flights this year, an impressive testament to the many innovative and exciting things happening here in Phoenix.”
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego

“Lufthansa’s Eurowings new nonstop flight between Frankfurt, Germany and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is a result of the increasing demand for travel in this strong market along with the hard work by Sky Harbor executives since our meeting with Lufthansa last year. Lufthansa is an important partner at our airport and this new service will have a positive impact on our airport, economy and residents.”
Councilwoman Thelda Williams, District 1
Chair Transportation, Infrastructure and Innovation Subcommittee

“The announcement by Eurowings is an important one for our community. It not only shows that international flights are in demand here in Phoenix, but it benefits our City’s economy by bringing in additional business investment and visitors.”
Councilman Jim Waring, District 2

“Eurowings newest, nonstop flight between Frankfurt, Germany and Phoenix will infuse new revenue into our local economy while providing our residents another option to access Europe. This new service will continue to put Phoenix on the global map encouraging more international services.”
Councilwoman Laura Pastor, District 4
Member of the Transportation, Infrastructure and Innovation Subcommittee

“Acquiring a carrier under the Lufthansa flag is an enormous accomplishment for our city and we look forward to having yet another nonstop flight to Europe.”
Councilman Sal DiCiccio, District 6

“It is great to see our City Council approved Airline Incentive Program continually pay dividends to our community with the addition of another non-stop flight to Frankfurt. This route is meaningful for Phoenix as a sign of strength in our City as a global destination and a gateway to Europe for Phoenix residents.”
Councilman Michael Nowakowski, District 7

“This flight is a great opportunity for Phoenix to showcase our city on an international stage and be a leader in connecting our community to the world. I’m sure this flight will lead to endless opportunities for what’s possible here in our growing city.”
Councilman Carlos Garcia, District 8

Rents are Rising Fastest in the Sun Belt The rental market is heating up nationwide, and markets in the Southwest and Southeast have seen the largest price increases. – The U.S. median rent is $1,545 a month, up 3.2 percent from a year ago. – Phoenix, Las Vegas and Sacramento have the fastest-rising rents. – Of the 10 hottest rental markets, only one – Salt Lake City – is not in the sun belt. – Rents are rising at the slowest pace in Houston, New Orleans, Baltimore and New York – but the market is speeding up in most of these cities.

SAN FRANCISCO, July 2, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — As the rental market continues to heat up nationwide, rent prices are rising the fastest in sun belt cities, according to the latest quarterly HotPads® Rent Report. Of the 10 fastest-rising rental markets in the United States, only one – Salt Lake City – is not in the sun belt. Phoenix has the fastest-rising rents out of the 50 largest metro areas, followed closely by Las Vegas. The median rent in Phoenix is $1,545 a month, up 6.9 percent compared to this time last year. The median rent in Las Vegas is $1,465 a month, up 6.8 from a year ago. After Phoenix and Las Vegas, the fastest rising rents are in Sacramento, Atlanta, Riverside and Orlando, where rent prices are rising more than 5 percent annually. Overall, the U.S. median rent is $1,545 a month, up 3.2 percent from a year ago. Across the country, the rental market has been on an upward swing since the second half of 2018. In the first quarter of 2019, rents rose at a rate of 3.1 percent annually. A year ago, rents were rising 3 percent annually. Austin, Phoenix and San Jose – all sun belt cities – have seen the highest gains in rental appreciation over the past year. In Austin, the median rent is $1,775 per month, up 3.6 percent from a year ago. This time last year, rents in Austin were rising just 1.1 percent annually. While rent prices do typically peak in the late spring and early summer, this recent upswing in rent growth is part of a longer-term trend. As rent prices continue to climb faster, other signs of a stagnant rental market – like rent discounts and other move-in specials – have faded in popularity, and more renters are facing affordability concerns. “The rental market has been heating up over the past year, and renters hoping for a break in prices this year probably shouldn’t hold their breath,” said Joshua Clark, economist at HotPads. “Permits for new construction have been stagnant and wage growth has been making a comeback, indicating that there will continue to be less supply and more demand through the busy summer season. While low mortgage rates and relief in home prices could give renters an incentive to enter the housing market, those who aren’t ready or able to buy will continue to see rent appreciation climb.” Houston, New Orleans, Baltimore and New York have the slowest-rising rents out of the 50 largest metro areas. In each of these markets, rents are less than 2 percent higher than they were last year. However, the rental market in many of these areas is still speeding up – at this time in 2018, rents in New Orleans, Baltimore and New York rose less than 1.5 annually. Compared to this time last year, rent appreciation has slowed the most in Sacramento, followed by Seattle and San Diego. Despite this slow down, the rental market in each of these areas is still comparatively strong – prices in these areas are still higher than the national median, and rents are rising faster than the national pace.
