The World Egg Bank Now Offers the Most Advanced Genetic Testing Available in the Reproductive Health Community

Theo nguồn tin trên trang của prweb.com

PHOENIX, AZ (PRWEB) SEPTEMBER 10, 2015 The World Egg Bank Inc. has announced the first United States testing of banked egg donors and recipients to reduce the incidence of having a child with a genetic disease. The World Egg Bank has partnered with Igenomix to offer clients the Carrier Genetic Test (CGT), an advanced testing method that uses cutting edge technology that can rapidly identify 5000 mutations in over 500 genes. These genetic diseases cause about 20% of infant deaths in developed countries and 10% of the hospitalizations of young children. Next-generation DNA sequencing provides a highly accurate analysis of the parents’ DNA and uses multiple reads that result in higher mutation detection rates and fewer missed carriers over older, traditional technology. This test will help ensure that couples using egg donation are matched with a donor who does not carry the same gene mutations as the father which could result in a child affected with one of over 600 genetic disorders such as Gaucher’s disease, cystic fibrosis and muscular spinal atrophy. It also detects X-linked disease mutations that are present in about 2% of women. “In the future, this will be the norm for all tissue banks offering donor eggs or sperm.” says Dr. Kimball O. Pomeroy, Scientific Director for the World Egg Bank, “Patients want to reduce as much as possible the probability of having a child born with a genetic disease and this technology provides that.” Statistics show there is approximately 1 in 100 chance that a newborn will have a genetic disease if there is no testing/matching. These odds are reduced to approximately 1 in 100,000 chance that a genetically matched newborn will have a genetic disease. With the CGT, The World Egg Bank’s patients can make crucial steps to prevent reproducing children with genetic diseases before becoming pregnant. “It is a great honor to be the first in the U.S. to offer intended parents a way to help prevent birth defects and disease.” says Diana Thomas, Founder and CEO of The World Egg Bank. The World Egg Bank will be at ASRM in Baltimore on October 17th to 21st. Come by the booth to speak with our team about the Carrier Genetic Test and figure out how it can change the world one egg at a time. About The World Egg Bank The World Egg Bank, founded in 2004 and headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona is the world’s first frozen egg bank, serving the reproductive health community. The World Egg Bank works with clinics worldwide to provide frozen eggs to infertile women and couples. For more information visit http://www.TheWorldEggBank.com. Sep. 8, 2015 Burton Barr Central Library, located at 1221 N. Central Ave, presents Latino Americans: 500 Years of History—a free series of discussions and art exhibitions—in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The discussion series, which will take place in Pulliam Auditorium on the first floor, corresponds to the six-part documentary film “Latino Americans.” This award-winning PBS series chronicles the history of Latinos in the United States from the 16th century to present day. Latino Americans: 500 Years of History – graphic Chicano Education in Arizona | 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22 After viewing a portion of episode two in the Latino Americans series, “The Pull and the Push,” Dr. Christine Marin, Professor Emeritus, Archivist/Curator and Historian for the Chicana/o Research Collection at ASU, will lead a discussion on the history of the Latino/a educational process in the United States. Journey Across America | 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29 Dr. Louis Mendoza, Director School of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies at ASU, will give a multimedia, research-based lecture on the history of Latinos in the United States via settlement, immigration, and colonial conquest. The History of Latino Urban Art | 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 Rogelio Gutierrez, Assistant Professor at the ASU School of Art, will give a brief lecture on the history and roots of urban art in the Latino culture followed by a tour of the two galleries exhibiting his work and the work of Latino artists from California, Arizona and New Mexico (see description below). The Story of Mexican Moviegoing in Phoenix | 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 Dr. Desiree Garcia, Assistant Professor, Department of English/Film and Media Studies at ASU, will lecture on the relevance of the border and the role of Mexican immigration and issues of segregation in public spaces to the local history of Phoenix moviegoing. Mobilizing to Immobilize: The Story of AZ Cotton | 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 Dr. Gloria Cuádraz, Associate Professor, School of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies at ASU, will oversee an audience-led discussion after viewing a portion of episode five of the Latino Americans series, “Pride and Prejudice.” She will integrate the theme of assimilation of Mexican-Americans into Arizona through an organized labor force. Two art exhibitions complementing the discussion series will be displayed on the second floor through Oct. 16: Art Exhibitions – Vocez de Aztlan and Reconstruction – graphic “Voces de Aztlán: Chicana/o Urban Art” | Sept. 21 – Oct. 16 | Second Space Gallery | Artwork by Dignidad Rebelde (Melanie Cervantes and Jesus Barraza), Janet Diaz and Rosalie López In today’s Chicana/o culture, Aztlán signifies an important symbol of spiritual and national unity, and it is often associated with the territories ceded to the United States by Mexico with the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo in 1848. The artists in this exhibition are Chicana/os from different regions of Aztlán. The works featured include images of everyday life, politically motivated activist posters and sculptural works, all of which address issues concerning the contemporary Chicana/o. The artists have a strong affinity for printmaking because of its ability to create multiples, which allows them to spread their message to a wide audience. This democratic approach to art making not only strengthens their ideas and concepts, but more importantly becomes a voice for underrepresented Latino communities. Curated by Professor Rogelio Gutierrez, ASU-School of Art. “Reconstruction” | Oct. 4 – Oct. 16 | North Gallery | Artwork by Rogelio Gutierrez This exhibition by artist Rogelio Gutierrez uses street sign aesthetics to explore issues of language, culture, and acceptance. Where and when is it okay to speak a certain language? Many Latinos in the United States face these questions on a daily basis due to today’s hostile immigration system and politicians who seek to exploit this community for their personal gain. Latino Americans: 500 Years of History has been made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association. Theo nguồn tin của Open Table trên trang mạng PRNewswire ALPHARETTA, Ga., Aug. 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — McAlister’s Deli®, a leading fast casual chain, announced today it signed franchise agreements with a new franchise group to open five restaurants in the Phoenix market over the next four years. The brand is targeting Phoenix, Tempe, Chandler and Gilbert to open the new locations. Currently, McAlister’s has two locations on North Tatum Blvd. in Phoenix and on West Bell Rd. in Peoria. Franchisees Jyoti Madhura, Preet Saini and Sanjiv Bhagat have extensive multi-unit franchising experience as owners of multiple restaurant concepts and service brands in Las Vegas, California and Phoenix. The franchise group is aiming to open its first McAlister’s location next summer. “As McAlister’s looks to expand throughout the West Coast, Arizona plays an important role in our growth strategy. Additionally, fast casual is the fastest-growing segment of the restaurant industry, so we’re confident McAlister’s will do incredibly well in Phoenix and are excited to grow the brand’s presence here.” Technomic® has recognized McAlister’s twice in its Consumers’ Choice Awards for Chain Restaurants — in 2015 as top fast casual chain for pleasant, friendly service and in 2014 as the top kid-friendly fast casual chain. Hastings & Hastings Speaks Out About Stress and Road Rage

Theo nguồn tin của Open Table trên trang mạng PRNewswire PHOENIX, Sept. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Studies show that up to 1,500 people are injured or killed in road rage incidents each year. Hastings & Hastings would like to see this number reduced to zero. Logo – http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20150901/263043LOGO Hastings & Hastings acknowledges the stress of driving, especially during the heat of summer as temperatures rise and tempers start to fray. Traffic conditions can add to this stress. No one likes to be trapped in bumper to bumper traffic on State Route 51 or the 101 loop. Hastings & Hastings encourages drivers to consider traffic conditions before they begin their commute. If commuters know ahead of time that they are going to be encountering difficult traffic conditions, they can plan ahead accordingly. Drivers can leave 15-20 minutes early to ensure that they can arrive to their destination on time. A good deal of driving stress is the result of poor planning. A commuter who is stuck in traffic knowing they are going to be late to their destination experiences more stress then a commuter stuck in the same traffic who will be arriving on time. Stress is one of the leading causes of road rage. It can build slowly over time without drivers even realizing they are under its effects. The result of this stress may be what psychiatrists call “intermittent explosive disorder” or IED. This is the rage that gathers as a result of a number of minor incidents. Getting cut off once or twice may be a minor annoyance; being tailgated, honked at, cutoff, or sped by 10-15 times during a commute could lead to IED. “I encourage people to engage in stress management as a way to reduce road rage. Get enough sleep, eat a healthy diet, and get some exercise, these are all excellent ways to reduce your stress level. If you find yourself experiencing some anger while driving, maybe take a deep breath and count to ten,” said David Hastings, founder of Hastings and Hastings. “I would love for Arizona drivers to be known as the most courteous in the nation,” he added. Road rage related deaths and injuries are always tragic, and almost completely avoidable. Hastings & Hastings is excited to work with the community towards the goal of reducing road rage on our Arizona streets. These awards reflect the combined opinions of more than 5 million restaurant reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners for more than 20,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Showcasing both new and established restaurants in some of the nation’s most rapidly growing dining destinations, the complete list features winning restaurants in 22 states and the District of Columbia, and includes Al’s Place in San Francisco, La Vara in Brooklyn, and Parachute in Chicago. New York has 12 winning restaurants, followed by California with 11, Texas with nine, and Minnesota and Oregon with eight each. Colorado, Illinois, and Pennsylvania each have six honorees, while Washington boasts five. Arizona, Louisiana, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Virginia have three each. Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Tennessee, Washington, D.C., and Wisconsin all have two eateries. Connecticut, Florida, Nebraska, and Ohio are also represented. Newer restaurants proved most popular, with a quarter of the eateries having opened in 2015 alone, and the majority of honorees were founded in the last five years. Restaurants serving American fare dominate the awards; however, the list represents cuisines from every corner of the globe, including Asian, Basque, French, Israeli, Mexican, Middle Eastern, and Scandinavian. “This year’s honorees are where the culinary magic happens, where the rules of fine dining are being rewritten,” says Caroline Potter, OpenTable Chief Dining Officer. “Whether they’re reviving forgotten cooking techniques, championing the latest sustainable ingredient, or creating unexpectedly delicious and unique flavor pairings, these restaurants are where you can truly wow the foodies in your life.” The list of the 100 Best Restaurants for Foodies in America are generated from more than 5 million restaurant reviews collected from verified OpenTable diners between August 1, 2014, and July 31, 2015. All restaurants with a minimum “overall” score and number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. Qualifying restaurants were then sorted according to a score calculated from each restaurant’s average rating in the “fit for foodies” category. Based on this methodology, the following restaurants, listed in alphabetical order, comprise the 100 Best Restaurants for Foodies in America according to OpenTable diners.
